FOR SALE: Intel CPU's and mobo's

Post by Skuzzlebutt » Tue Dec 13, 2005 1:35 pm

Especially for my Simcentral buddies.

I have for sale the following:

Pentium 4 670 (3.8GHz, 800fsb) CPU - $600
Pentium D 820 (2.8GHz dual core) CPU $200
Pentium 4 Extreme Edition Dual Core (3.2GHz, 800fsb) $800

The Extreme Editon comes with 955X intel desktop board and HSF. I have a 945G intel desktop board to go with either the 820 or 670.

PM me with any questions.

Thats a sweet deal on the 3.8 chip Scuzz, i need to figure out if my board can run it. If it can i will buy it for sure. _b

Maybe you can help interpreting my manual. The motherboard comes with a surface mount 478-pin Zero insertion Force (zif) socket. The socket is designed for the intel Pentium 4 processor in the 478-pin package with 512kb L2 cache.

Please explain what this means and what is the maximum chip speed i can get for it. ;p

Hey Mattly,

These are all socket 775 CPU's so they won't fit your mobo I'm afraid. If you let me know the make and model number plus the chipset I can see if I have anything to fit it (or at least tell ya what chip you can squeeze in there).

But...I'm selling the CPU with a 945G based motherboard if that's any help. Problem is, you may need a new video card since this is a PCI Express board plus you'll most likely need some new DDR2 RAM. Bit of a snowball effect with these new CPU's innit?

What CPU you got at the moment?

Thanks Skuzz. I have asked a few people but no one can give me a 100% answer.

I have Asus P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard.

CPU
Socket 478 for Intel Pentium4 with speeds uptp 3.2+ GHz
On-die 512KB/256KB L2 cache with full speed
Supports Intel Hyper-Threading Technology
New power design supports next generation Intel Prescott CPU

I am copying word for word out of manual

Chipset
Intel 875P MCH features the intel performance acceleration technology
Intel ICH5R

Front Side Bus
800/533/400 MHz

There are several variationsof this motherboard and i have been unable to find anywhere that states what the maximum CPU is? Why does it say 3.2+ if it only can handle a 3.2?

Looks like that board will take up to a 3.4GHz P4 (of which there are a few variations) if you're using the latest BIOS update. (Which is why they say 3.2GHz+ in the literature...cos they know they'll generally be able to support faster CPU's as Intel release them -- up to a point -- by updating the BIOS)

So what CPU do you have in there at the moment young Mattly?

i have a standard P4 3.0 GHz Master Skuzzlebutt. If i could get a 3.4 GHz at a great price i would be sorelytempted. ;p

Hey great link btw. Does that mean i can get a 3.4 E in?

Yep...just need to update your BIOS to the right version (if it isn't already that is).

A 3.4GHz P4...I'll check my prize cupboard tomorrow and see what I got...

God just used pricespy to check how much a 3.4 EE is and fell over backwards. Perhaps just a 3.4 would be a better plan. How do i check which bios i have Skuzz?

Depends on who makes the BIOS used on your board but genrally it'll tell you the BIOS revision on one of the first couple of screens that appear when you boot up.

Extreme Editions ain't cheap...unless you buy one from me of course!
