Make sure you have new batteries inserted.
Remove one battery.
Hold buttons 5 and 7 down WHILE re-inserting battery.


does it work now?

if not do the same again but this time hold buttons 6 and 8 instead.

no uy it does nt need batterys as for ur technic havent tried it yet my neigbour has it hes asking his mate but when its back ill have a go with the holding of ones bottons and let ya no

Maybe your setup isn't working for him? As no two drivers drive the same ...

In heat when using Axis' like an analog stick or pedals on a wheel it gets the same quick revving out an the engine as when you are around on full lock, full throttle when you have button's for throttle/brake. I don't know why this is. It just means when running the analog sticks or pedals you have to be a little more gentle applying the throttle because the rev's wil pick up quicker and you will feel as if you are wheel spinning right down the straight. Running axis' allow you to run much lower gear ratio's because the rev's stay much more contstant around the whole track. If you can tame a quicker revving engine I imagine you will have an advantage..
