Yes you need to have rFactor first.

The Historix Mod uses material from the GTL (GT Legends) game under the condition that users of the Mod have a copy of GTL..which is required during the install process of the Mod into rFactor.

In other words, to play Historix you need to have both rFactor and GTL.

The mod is by far the best thing made for rFactor so its so worth the effort.

Meh, it is far from the best thing. Good, but too unrealistic to be the best thing.

I agree Sulley.

It's not just the physics I like, but the massive selection of cars. many I grew up with and many more I dreamed of driving as a kid.
The quality is by far the best out there with amazing detail.
