SimTV's coverage of CTS Race 1

Post by Prometheus » Sun Jan 30, 2005 10:57 am

... is now available for download, thanks to the kind folks at Simracerhq

These videos are becoming monsters, each week getting bigger and bigger. Of course, having longer races makes it harder to keep the file size and video length down to a decent size.

And some technical aspects I'm now going to bore you with.

Grab Details
: 91 clips recorded, at 640x480x32, 25 fps on a Gigabyte 6600GT video card, with 4 x AA - ohhh, just love that sheen :D using Fraps
: 5.3gb of clips recorded
: approx 1 hour to record all clips (had a couple of glasses of red wine as well so time kinda drifted by)

Editing
: rendering time - 24'10" using Sony Vegas, to uncompressed video, 640x480x32, 25 fps
: final rendered version, with music, graphics - 7.7gb
: approx 2 hours to edit, add graphics, choose music

Compression
: datarate of 1.5mbps
: rendering time of 4'48"
: final file size - 62mb

Said I was going to bore you all :p

_b I shall grab it now seeing as my ping has just decided to go to 600ms :(

Better fix itself by this evening O_o
Cop: Are you OK?
Randolph: I don't know. I'm kinda ****ed up in general, so it's hard to gauge.

Thanks.

And yeah, having looked at the replay last week, I thought I'd give it a go, while steering clear of everyone.

Best on Atlanta at the mo' is a snail's 1.12 ish . So I'll keeping a very close eye on the mirror and pulling over whenever you blast past at the speed of light (or so it seems).

But it's fun to drive :)

Ha ha, thanks !

It seems the vids I make that I think/prepare about less = more popular O_o

The CTS one was done in about 3 hours - 1 for recording, 2 for editing.

I dunno about Ron's stats, but for purely the serverside replay file, I moved almost a gig for just that file

So how many downloads does that work out to? Are more people downloading the replay than are actually racing?

Ahhh I see. I was thinking the replay file was about half that size for some reason.

ya more people have media player than they do nascar 2003

gonna have to get prom and a few others to upskill them camera skills, seriously thinking we could actually do a 'LIVE' video feed using nascar 2003 and gpl forever.

have to be on a lan of course, 3-4 guys using gplforever covering the track, in different postions, one person on the fixed in game cameras, another doing the mixing, and PROM directing, pushing the feed out via inspectors link to inspire.

Ron I also might be able to offer you a mirror location for NZ Only access download of movies if thats a help. I suspect that like my stats, its about 90% NZ traffic :)

o_O now that's an interesting plan. Monumentally complicated, but interesting.

That's the advantage of having the video coverage - nice shots can be played over and over again until I get the best angle.

Bah, won't be able to have a glass of wine while doing it though
