Proposed 5 race GTR V8 league

Post by famin » Wed Nov 16, 2005 1:02 pm

So lets organise the V8's..

Who set up the GTR league points site? Can you do it again for the V8's?
I suggest we agree 5 tracks for a start.

I think that we've done Puke and Bathurst and besides Bathurst is a bit long meaning less laps for the time and a greater disparity between faster and slower drivers.

As well I personally would like to try some new tracks.

So how about these?

Phillip Island: http://www.m4driving.it/files/2560.html
Sandown: http://www.m4driving.it/files/2482.html
Hidden valley: http://www.gtndclnr.com/lt/tracks/HiddenValley.rar
Wanneroo: http://www.gtndclnr.com/lt/tracks/Wanneroo.rar
Oran Park: http://www.gtndclnr.com/lt/tracks/OranPark.rar

I dont know if theyre all up to scratch but thats my initial list.

Hands up those who want to participate?
post your acceptance and car type below and any other track ideas

I will be happy(sic!) to post a free setup for a couple of cars before each race if it helps.

Riven will have to get the tracks on the server asap for practice so I further suggest a deadline for the list of Friday this week.

Note that Surfers and Adelaide are crap looking tracks!!!

Vote for your first choice for a start!

I will race - Pukekohe is a given but personally I would rather race tracks like Monza, Spa etc that we already know work and we are familiar with. Like many others I suffer from the no practice syndrome and racing at least a little competitively would be much easier using the tracks we have already learned over the last two seasons rather than rush in and have to learn a whole new set of tracks as well as a new car and set up.

Some of the tracks we did in the first season would suit the V8'S quite nicely I think.

When and if you sort this out let me know and we will host it locally.

I agree on not racing the aussie tracks too, but for different rasons.

I dont really feel like driving V8 Supercars on go-kart tracks.. the bigger more open european tracks would be better.

We can run one at InSPire Net, like we do for the IL2 stats.

Amazing how much fun you can have with good old Microsoft Word when that is all you have on your work PC.....

Here is a little front page I made for a GTR League (hosted by InSPire Net) if you guys want to use it - the scoring can be hosted here as well and linked off the front page.

so far Melbourne Sandown Oran park and puke all have 4 votes.

Im just trying to get this moving Inspector. I hear what you say about practice but personally Id have thought most people would like something new. It keeps the interest.

However maybe I was premature.

We should identify the goals of the season first?
1. Use the ausorc V8 mod
2. Limit to 5 tracks
3. Only use proven good tracks.
4. Widen the appeal of the series to interest more drivers.

Now the only contentious statement there is how to widen the appeal.
use well known tracks? use tracks that are new to everyone? offer setups? weight penalties for winners? Artificially restrict proven winners to slower cars?

and of course we need an accepted organiser who can make a decision.

Im OK if that is or is not me but once its made lets just go with his decisions. Its only 5 races, dont want to make a meal of it and it might be fun anyway.

To add to the mix how about 3 new tracks and 2 old favourites?

If so Id choose
Oran Park (the bridge, the elevation changes)
Wanneroo (otherwise known as Barbagallo, small but very nice)
Pukekohe (seems to be a requirement as we all know it)
Imola (Hey, its my best track)
Barcelona or Shanghai (Barcelona is a good mix and Shanghai is certainly NOT a go-kart track but is a supercar track)

Its a fine line balancing go-kart tracks against looong circuits. A BIG circuit like Bathurst only emphasizes the difference in lap times remember. If you want close racing DONT choose really big circuits a la Spa.

Comments welcome.

So I shouldnt mention liking to run Taupo then :D

I just love over-powered cars on small tracks. Must be why I like Bristol and Taupo so much.

I'll be up for racing a Holden, any tracks are fine. Oran parks a good'un, ya have to play with the throttle on a few of the corners. Any tracks like that will be good.

Yea I agree Famin, lets just get it up and running. Trying to find that happy medium is always hard but as long as everyone throws their ideas in the bucket then the organiser can swirl that around a little and pour out a season of fun for everyone.

Web site updated CarnaGe.

Riven, can you please investigate and report on whether we can apply weight penalties? and how?

that would provide the slower cars.

If you host a server through the games interface I think you can do stuff. But the dedicated server is highly restricted in what it offers, and we've pretty much been using all of it.

I have had a though on the fixed setup issue if thats what people would like.. you could take the V8 mod, and create a new hdv file for the 2 cars in which the setups are locked. just like the diff currently is in the V8s.
A lot of work for someone, and would require everyone to backup their hdv files and copy in new ones.

Did I miss something Unbound. Apologies if I did.

Riven: thnx for the answer.. Personally I think changing the client file could be open to ummm.. disregarding the request shall we say...

and a bit hard to do... praps better to stick to providing good setups that can be used if anyone wants.

Yus, plus maybe a points system like in NZNL with Rookie level, but not separate races, if doable via GTR LS

Philip Island is the best track in Australasia, it has the fastest turn 1 of probably any track in the world - witness the MotoGP drama from a month ago. It's fast and flowing and the V8s are too woosy to race there. Yay.

Well I tried Oran Park and Shanghai tonight..

Oran Park is short and twisty, lots of 1st gear corners but some great power drifting and coming over that right left cicane on the crest of the hill is buttock clenching...

Shanghai? well lets say I sortof got lost in its immensity... :) man its BIG but full of tight corners too. It would take some time to learn and get proficient at.
