GPL 69 racing

Post by famin » Sun Jan 15, 2006 4:12 pm

Ok, despite being drawn to some of the new addon tracks,

Ive decided that given immersion in this sim is one of its main plusses that we should race the championship just like they did then. (well as close as we can..)
Thus, because we havnt got Monjuich Park (as far as I know) we should race like in 1968. In some ways thats even better as the high wings were used more in that season than in 69.

So the tracks in the correct order will be:
Kyalami
Jarama
Monaco
Spa
Zandvoort
Rouen
Brands Hatch
Nurburgring
Monza
Mont Tremblant (St Jovite)
Watkins Glen
Mexico

I know that means Monaco and nurburgring which will be extra difficult but hey... its about time we did them anyway I guess. Nurburgring will only be about 3 - 4 laps anyway. maximum.

The extra tracks youll need can be found here:
http://gpltd.bcsims.com/?%24showsearch=Search

and I recommedngetting the graphical updates for some of the others to really help immersion.
ie: monaco rocks : http://www.dixierunners.speedgeezers.com/mrocks/

and the other 67 tracks: http://fredfaster.m4driving.it/gpladdons/index_eng.htm

These really add atmosphere and I dont think theyll cause a problem for the server.

Before each race Ill do a bit of a build up with some history from the actual race of 68...

I hope you all approve... It should make for a great series if we remember to race the track first, THEN the other drivers.

ps: when Montjuich appears (and it is being done http://montjuich.speedgeezers.com/) we can do 1969 which will also include Clemont Ferrand!!

Sounds good. I'm happy with that. Not too many tracks to learn.
When are we kicking this thing off?

One quick note, which Brands Hatch? I'd recommend the Saber/Jackson version (brands67) rather than the Noonan version (brands).

definitely Brands 67 (green cover version)

Kick off is 7:30 for 8:30 start this Thursday 19th (given riven is Ok with that) with Kyalami.

I must emphasize again that hoons and boguns who insist on mad 'fast as' hot lapping and dont realise or dont care about keeping sensible distances from other cars will not be tolerated very long.
I hope that no-one who has signed up so far is contemplating that.

Not slowly just respectfully of the other cars around you allowing for the fov and GPL lag etc etc...

BTW the drivers roster for the GPL series is now CLOSED.

If you didnt post in the other thread before now its too late.

Thanks to those who have signed up. It'll be a great series!!

1. I'm in, assuming I can fix my connection problems that have stopped me racing GPL on-line for the last few months. Started yesterday by Windows re-install, will be working on GPL after work next few nights.

2. Format? Int short? 2 x srpint races?

3. Is there space for SandyK if we can convince her to start GPL again?

4. No Snake in the list? He was the only driver that I could regularly beat when we raced GPL 65 ;-)

Hi Famin,
Does the fact that my name is in the posibles mean that I can race on Thursday?

You what??

So you make no mention ever about closing the entries and then close them suddenly 4 days out before starting...

Good luck for your league.. I'm sure you'll be down to 2 drivers after a week or two.

Sorry guys, but i'm going to be returning to cambridge to pick up the stricken van this thursday night, so i wont be able to offer my server for this week. so i guess you either
1, get me a working dedicated server sorted that i can pop up at inspire.

2, race on multiple 128k upload servers splitting the field.

3, postpone the start date for 1 week, which may also alow more time to sort option 1.

thanks for the heads up Riven...

I dont like the diea of multiple 128k servers so thats out.
What exactly do you need for a working dedicated server?

If we cant do that then its 1 more week unfortunately.

Hi guys, just saw this. I might be interested in running 69s for a quick season. Depends on what day and time. I see positions are closed so I may have missed the boat on this one...oh well back to more converting of tracks to rFactor :)

For the record, PB at Kya in 69s is in high 1m14s. Recently dropped to 1m16s due to lack of GPL driving.

Is anyone that has entered this series on dialup 56k?

Was thinking if we should try setting GPL to use LAN tcp settings (simple 1 line edit of core.ini) and then we'd see many cars ont eh track, instead of 4 or 5.

Thoughts?
