Hehe, I lost mine just before the last pitstop. Just went "spurgacoughblurg" and died :( 12th to the back. Ah well.

I'm almost glad it happened. Hopefully that means it won't happen during the normal CTS season :)

It was all good fun :D

Shame you got a bit ripped wood ;p, There was some very good drafting going on and some good side by side racing.

only problem I thought was there was a bit of aggresive blocking, blocking is fine yes, but not when you suddenly swerve your car to cut someone off, that causes dings :D of which aplenty we saw :)

still, it should make a good video :D

Updated dude, done in quite a hurry... Congratulation Team Kiwi, we put a fight, but our retirements and a poor last lap handed you guys enough, actually more than enough to take the overall victory.

It was a race driven at an extra level, some awesome drafting and some spectacular incidents... Can't wait to see what Prom comes up with given all the things that happened in that race.

Thanks to Flyboy, Ron, Riv and everyone else involved on the Kiwi side of things. I'd like to thank Mal, Richo, Kenny and the ASRG committee for letting me run this this idea... Pity about the outcome and all, but I'm sure we'll have a rematch in a few months...

Thanks to all competitors who took part, we certainly raced our arses off didn't we? :)

I had a real challange after the last pit stop. one Kiwi in amongst 8 Aussies. Man it was torrid. Eventually some gave way to protect their placings. I was in 25th and in my final lunge for the line I tagged 24th and gained that place going sideways through the pit exit. Would definitely NOT gone for it if 24th had been a kiwi.
Good fun though - we've got to do that again _b

Damn that was good fun, pleased with how my race went despite being ripped a couple of times by the ozzies, and a black flag for speeding was a stupid mistake. some real good team work went on and a special thanks to Unbound who slowed and picked me up which resulted in a couple of position gains _b

The first pitstop was a shocker, obviously the call of the train was to pit, but without ventrillo working I didn't know (no visual notce). I ended up making a late decision to go in also and was clipped by an Aussie, spun, took out riven (sorry), and then got a 30 second hold for dangerous entry :(

really enjoyed the big trains, great teamwork displayed by all in the NZ team _b

I was able to catch up to Bazz Happy and Riven towards the end and then was taken out by 535 T Forster, racing for position, and he decided to punt me from behind and spin me to gain the spot

look forward to the next one

great Win overall (makes up for the cricket :D )

Congratulations to the organisers on both sides of the ditch

Copped a black flag for speeding in the pits as well which was annoying, but still pretty happy to sneak into the top ten all things considered.

Was some good hard racing going on out there but on a few occasions I felt a bit unfairly squeezed by the aussies which resulted in an accident one time but at the same time I was guilty of unintentionally driving high into an aussie later on in the race.

Good, fun event and well done kiwis. _b

Now Now, don't go ruining the atmosphere over an incident or 3 you think you might have been hard done by pls... Don't forget that all the Aussies were having to contend with a fair bit of warp on the server (something we gratefully don't normally have to deal with in our little corner of the world) It wasn't just the Aussies I was seeing some of you guys warping too.. A shame but stiff shit, the nature of the beast (the Internet) at this stage.

Just remember for each incident you might be unhappy about, there are just as many we were... I'm certain that in this type of event it all evens it's self out over all.

Now... How frigging fun was that? I have done a fair bit of this on-line racing thing and I can say I have never been in a race like that before. Totally awesome teamwork on both teams.. It was awesome to see large groups separate themselves into 2 line, AUS and NZ sometimes more than 10 cars on one line and a few less/more on the inside going lap after lap double file!!!!

Spectacular stuff gents we should all be very proud.

So when you want this to happen again.......I think it's safe to say we have between the 2 clubs 40 drivers keen for it again.... Maybe a monthly event??

Good comments Rich. I agree, that was amazing fun. The whole teams aspect worked perfectly and considering there were 40 guys out there (well, 39 guys and Mattly anyway) I thought that was some of the best racing I've ever seen online. Got caught up in a couple or three dings but (apart from one unavoidable traffic jam near the start) I'm pretty sure they were nothing more than just racing incidents caused by me and the other guy pushing ourselves to the limits.

Rockin.

Can't wait for the next one.

I quite agree rich and I realise warping issues may have played a part in more than a few of the incidents, not feeling hard done by at all because as I said I was guilty myself on 1 or 2 occasions.

you know, that race should really be brought to the attention of the mainstream media!

It was great to watch on NRTV, I was glued to the screen in those final laps and when the 2nd placed aussie lost it on the LAST lap!! well.. I felt for you bud... not a whole lot but I felt for you!

Someone with a good writing skill should send a report to RNZ (or the equivalent aussie) news media asap.

I'm trying I'm trying !

Haven't heard back from the Sydney Morning Herald IT dude (who wrote an article about MS Train Sim and how locals are recreating closed train lines), but I know our guys aren't that interested in it, and I can understand :D Car.co.nz is still interested, I just need to get some screen shots to them. Local newspapers are also a good bet guys - maybe people can go and contact their local paper ?

GTR story tonight on 3News, starring the dapperly dressed Martin (who else wears a suit and tie when racing ?).

But back to topic.

Great race, and much fun, despite my piss poor driving and truck that did not want to go fast for some peculiar reason. Let's do it again !

Side note and just my 2c worth - with 20 people on Vent, there needs to be some comms discipline, otherwise people just yell out "I'm going high" and expect everyone to recognise their voice

Err, as I have a little bit of experience in this area (I run the comms with an iron fist/claw and it kinda makes my job happen) I think it's the one weakness we had in completely killing the Aussies. I know that I'm the late comer to this scene but there were some stages during the race that ventrilo was a waste of time due to the failure of communication - if it's to be used for communicating, then people need to communicate properly. Not a whinge guys, like I said, it's just my 2c worth.

OK, SimTV.

My plan is to make a hi-res 800x600 3mbps version of coverage available on dvd, and a lo-res 640x480 1.5mbps downloadable. Howard Dobson from Sports Tonight is happy to front the coverage for us, downside is that he's flat out for the next two weeks.

So coverage release date is probablya month away. But I'd rather do it nicely and take more time than a slap-bang-get-it-done-in-a-morning usual coverage. Once the replay file is up, I'll start looking thru it. If people have a particular event they think is worthwhile, please PM with a timer reference number and truck number. Saying "lap 38" means didly squat considering the number of trucks and how big coverage needs to be.

Normally for coverage, I run the game at 3x speed via spectator view, then jump to camera & trucks when I see something, but with 40 trucks this is going to be a bit harder, esp with battles for position, drafting, etc.

Music suggestions always welcomed. Not neccessarily accepted. But I'll think about it :p

I agree about the comms, the idea is right but the execution just needs a little work because I too was confused a lot of the time about whether the call was coming from my group of cars or another.

Considering how we are normally i thought our voice comms was pretty good for the first run. I agree with Prom that we need to set down a protocol for communicating as there was alot of confusion with front drivers either not confident to speak or just not able to multitask with driving at 193mph and speaking. ;) .

I think we won because of voice comms and we need to focus on improving in that area as well as our driving. ;p

If you consider the amount of ppl on Ventrillo, Comms were ok. I got a bit stuffed there at one point with Bold calling me to lead a train High. All I kept hearing was my name, so I drove the middle line so the back of the pack could do what ever they wanted till I finally got some confirmation of the request.

Great fun!
