SimTV and Aus vs NZ CTS Race Coverage . . .

Post by Prometheus » Mon Mar 28, 2005 2:27 pm

:D

Hold onto your knickers ladies, it's now available at SimRacerHQ.

Running for 15 minutes, it features the classic duel of the March 5th Australia vs New Zealand CTS Race.

Of good verses evil. And naturally evil lost - the Aussies.

And now some boring techincal notes :

* 518 video files clipped, totalling 20.8 gb of avi's
* available in both 800x600 and 640x480 resolution
* render time of 48 minutes
* final 800x600 res copy comes to 4gb avi
* video compression using AlparySoft lossless compression codec via Sony Vegas editing software

Copies are available if you want one as :

800 x 600 avi file - available on DVD data disc, for playing on a computer. Stereo audio, 3mbps encoding.

720 x 576 mpg file - available for viewing on a dvd player (one that is compatible of playing DVD+R or similar format). Stereo audio, 3mbps encoding (I hope).

640 x 480 wmv file - downloaded from SimracerHQ. Stereo audio, 1mbps encoding, suitable for download at 109mb.

When it's available for download, I suggest you get it 1st, then decide if you want a 800x600 version.

The video : due to work committments - and everyone has been watching my hard work with 3News and Campbell Live, right :D ? , I've been unable to use Sports Tonight's Howard Dobson to present the video . So I've gone for the usual music and movie package, and slapped some music on it this morning in a bid to get it out today.

If people send me a self addressed envelope with a blank DVD, I'm happy to burn them whatever they want. Sorry folks, I don't have a stack of blanks and envelopes laying around the house.

And now the anticipation . . . :p

Well the files there, but when I start downloading it it is only 39.4MB. I'm guessing it's not fully uploaded yet? ;)

[edit: and now it's over 50MB... I'll just wait 10min :p]

Good stuff Prom :D

Only thing I would like to see is a quick run down of the top 10 at the end rather than just the winner.

Ya we did, but it was the aussies moving over on the kiwis i was talking about. two lines side be side, and the aussie just pulls over to disrupt the kiwi line.

the other dings where just that - dings

awesome work on the vid prom....the bar gets raised yet again :)

as for the driving...yikes :o almost glad that thats not going to go out to a wider audience, looks more like a stockcar race than Nascar CTS....seemed to be a generous amount of 'jamming' going on from both sides

Thanks guys, glad everyone likes it.

Remember that I'm showing just 13 minutes out of 82 minutes of racing - just 15% of what actually happened that fateful night... so while some of the crashes were due to some poor driving skills, most of the race was clean, just going around and around and around ;)

Outstanding once again Prom _b

Thanks for all time & effort, the result is certainly worth it for all of us.

Also thanks for sending down the DVD in time for the LAN, I had trouble with my DVD software but Mikool and others were able to watch it at the lan. I have since fixed mine and it is all go.

No prob, glad you like it. Did the dvd get played in a normal machine, or a PC ?

I hadn't figured out how to use the new dvd drive properly when I burnt your disk ! Using Nero Express, but now I've got it figured out how to dump data rather than just make a movie. Silly pgm had default settings hidden away somewhere :o

As per PM discussion Prom, just found this article,
http://www.dvdplusrw.org/Article.asp?mi ... =-1&aid=44

Indicates that you may be able to use recent Nero and change book type to DVD-ROM for easier playback.

Other utilities may be needed if not using Nero I expect, not sure if Roxio supports it etc...

Great work Prom

Loved how the video shows someone who complains about other people
taking him out, taking cars out in atleast two instances. O_o

You couldn't resist huh Matt...

Anyway, overall in this instance I think its clear that we gave as good as we got, yep I got ripped a couple of times by non-black cars in a way uncommon to weekly races.

I own up to some less than angelic behaviour also, especially in the later stages when I was helping Typhoon I think it was barge our way thru several yellow cars, overuse of the left side of the yellow line for one thing.

Only saw the tail end of the 4 car nz vs 8 car oz battle from lap 67 or so, which was the highlight of my night I recall, one of the many examples of good NZ drafting teamwork on the night I'm sure.

Anyway I plan to use the DVD to garner some more interest in the league, if nothing else some better understanding of why on go on about it at times.

Funny how some of the real mcoy IT geeks here look at you sideways when you say race cars online, they suffer from the PC as tool rather than entertainment device, must use a console to play syndrome.

I'll show some this cool vid and open a few eyes I reckon.
