New Zealand NASCAR League Car Numbers

Post by TonyG » Sun May 01, 2005 5:17 pm

Just a quick notice on car numbering this season, the new rule:
Drivers may choose their own car numbers, the only exceptions are as follows: The numbers 1 to 50 are reserved for those who finished in those positions last season. Drivers who held another particular number last season have first rights on that number, apart from the numbers 300 - 399, these numbers will not be used as they conflict with random numbers generated by the server. Drivers may also display their last series result number on the rear of their car with the letters NZ before it.

So could all drivers who are at the moment registered with either a number below 50 that they do not "own" or a 300 number, please change them.

Drivers who have the permission of a number "owner" may use that number.
Thanks :)

um . . . that sort of negates the point of those who use the "Owned" number (below 50) then, doesn't it ? . . . I thought the idea was so you could relate your current performance to a driver's past performance ?

Or was the "permission" only meant for the numbers above "50" that another driver used last series ?

That would negate the point if it were compulsory to use your number between 1 and 50.
Because the league was split on the use of numbers this season, you could call this a test season re numbers, but we are trying to keep it as simple as possible for everyone

As per the rules:
"Drivers may choose their own car numbers, the only exceptions are as follows: The numbers 1 to 50 are reserved for those who finished in those positions last season. You choose the no mate, you can use your reserved number, ie your placing no from last season OR your fav no (133?), its up to you.

I chose to keep using 888 rather than my placing of 19, as it happens Jay wants 19 so I let him have it. The only restriction is the 300 series as they cause probs with server assigned no's.

404 is a most appropriate number for a Google car.

Thanks Sulley for the number, I wanted 9 because my NASCAR driver is Kasey Kahne. But I'll settle with 19 which is his team mate Mayfield. Thanks alot.

We will need the number rule clarified further i think. I personally don't think any number under 50 should be able to be given to a driver unless he actually earned it. No offence intended Jay, but if we just let people run the low numbers then holding them for the experienced driver loses it's meaning and prestige.

The way it was explained indicated that NO final rule was settled for this season as to previous placings so the rule states you have the choice, I'm apples I didn't want the 19 or the rules as promoted ;)

I think my number should be left alone since Sulley had the number and said I could have since he didn't want it. Plus I don't look at it as given a number and not earning it. It's just a number to me b/c I had a lot of unheard of clutch and engine problems more than once last season and even missed a couple of races. So I don't believe I'm really a 30th place driver or whatever my final placing was. I believe some others in the league can contest to that. I think the whole number choosing by your placement last season is a waste of time. A driver should be able to run a number that isn't already chosen by someone else. So are we going to change or number every season???
