New Zealand Racing League - Race 2 - ODonohue MichiganBR
Michigan BR
Michigan International Speedway is recognized as one of Motorsports' premier facilities because of its wide racing surface and high banking. These two factors make three- and four-abreast racing as routine as the checkered flag at the end of a race. Courtesy of Nascar.com
With the first race of the season in the books and controversy last week at Daytona, the drivers load up their planes and head to Brooklyn, Michigan for the ODonohue 180. The track is home to last season CTS Champion Sean “Odieâ€Â

Good Pit entry and exit will be very important in this race!!
Pit exit is on the apron until you reach the back straight, it is single file and NOT full throttle, anything above 120MPH in third gear would risk a spin, practice will increase this speed. Spinning on exit and onto the race line would not be wise
Pit entry is also not straightforward, advise everyone that you are pitting !!! then I would advise going low and as you enter turn 3 be at 120MPH and below the white line and gradually slow for the tightish entry to the pits at 55MPH, again, spinning here and getting in someone's way can incur penalties! Entering the pitlane directly from the racing line is IMHO asking for trouble
Practice pitting

Easier said than done on a track that promotes drifting up to walls on corner exit, ppl need to be aware of that affect and approach passing moves accordingly I suggest. Also being prepared for the bounce off walls into racing line consequence which will no doubt be a factor.famin wrote:and hold your line
Safest way to pit I found was slow before corner, off line and go around the bottom of turn four, just gotta watch pendulum affect of going to fast when you try to align with pit entrance.
Bottom line quite a challenging track so be careful out there.

As Sulley stated, if you make a pass on the low line, you better be able to keep it there are get back the car you are passing, because it is the passing driver's repsonsibility to keep the car low on exit. If you are too low on exit, the car is goning to want to loop around and you will end up taking drivers with you and the chance of having a protest lodged against you also.Sulley wrote:

5th from the back is not too bad after being in about 4 dings
not major ones tho, cept for when I T-Boned Wraith.
Can I just say tho if you are stuck up high, keep watching your F2 screen, and when you see a gap, floor it
I tboned you wraith cause you crept slowly down the track and I couldn't tell if you were going to stay the same speed or speed up

Well that was definately a fun track, adds some more skill to the race when you can't go flat out.
Bit of a bummer getting caught up with Odie and Prom taking me from 8 to 28 but hey, thats racing.
Cheers for the tight competition Ron, Snake, Rob was good fun indeed.
Congrats to you aswell Viking, just jumped ahead of me now... something to aim for
Cheers all.

I thought you were going quite quick for a pit entry. Was #@#% off at the time going from 5th to 18th, but at least it wasnt me causing the ding this time.storm wrote:sorry to who ever i took out entering pit lane Big al ? my brake pedal decided to break at the moment i needed to brake

I had a great race - managed to avoid the dings and found myself in a comfortable 5th. Unfortunately after keeping cool all race the prospect of a top 5 finish got to me and I commited the cardinal sin of tangling with a team mate who was fighting for position. I should have backed off and let them go.
Sorry Pat. All my fault.
Oh well a good lesson to learn.
On to next week
