NZNL - Race 5 - The Inspectors 121 at Chicagoland

Chicagoland Speedway, which held Nextel Cup and Busch Series events for the first time in 2001, includes grandstand seating for 75,000 spectators, 37 luxury suites, on-site parking and camping areas and reserved long-term parking areas for recreational vehicles in the infield adjacent to the second and third turns. Courtesy of NASCAR.com

The week NZNL makes a trip to Chicagoland where some drivers will be looking at the large oranges in the turns and some will be trying to figure out how to get around the tunnel turn.

Chicagoland is similar to Kansas, but the slight difference is in turns 3 and 4 where the car seems to be sucked to the bottom of the track, which has the driver fight to keep the car straight in the turn.

A last minitue sponors approached the committee and showered them with gifts to have the race named after him. There will be a random draw for a prize that was donated. The prize is Mega Memory 128MB USB Watch. The drawing will be for the drivers that finish in the Top 10. We are looking for sponsors for some of the remaining races.

The top 3 teams shuffled around after Indy and we anticipate another shuffle this week after Chicagoland.

Can Jay of Team Marine continue his climb in the standings, after the past 2 weeks Jay has found himself in the Top 10 and has his sights on the top 5 this week.

Are we going to see a rookie in the top 5 for the first time after this week with Viking making a charge also.

Track Facts
Banking/Turns: 18

Should be a great night, a quick practice race tonight showed the importance of keeping those tyres in good shape, well done Jay :)

Pit entry will be tricky in traffic, keep it tidy fellas :)

Yes Tony, so true. Also I would like to point out a couple other things:

Pit Exit is on the back stretch
Pit Entry is where you would like it, but it needs to be made safe. Same rules apply as all previous races; you must be able to enter the pits without impeding other drivers.
Pit Speed is 45

Pace Speed for the start will be 60MPH

Turn 3 and 4 are tricky as previously noted.

Remember if you make a pass on the inside going into the turns; make sure you can hold your line through the turn.

Thanks Tony, that was good racing. I can't stress enough about tires, tires, tires. That will be the difference in the race tomorrow.

Apologies to all I dinged and well done Wood on another fine win. It was fun to see Flyboy crack his face off after Famin and him came together in a corner.

Don't jinx it Riv >_<

With a full grid, I think coming through from the back will be all but impossible around here.

Things were looking bleak at the start when my car was on its roof D:

Fortunately a lot of dings meant I could get to 9th, but some people need more practice >8p

I was well pleased with a third after managing to get my way thru all the dings :)

At one stage I was competing with Wood and Dick leak for the lead, we were all within a second or two of each other :)

All fell to bits tho at my last pitstop, where I went in too fast and went wide, almost right dinged skuz (soz skuz D:) came back down to pitlane and got rammed by Mattly (soz Mattly ;p) but we managed to get into pit lane :)

Qualified 33 and worked my way up to 13th before getting caught up in the accidents.... when will people learn to slow for accidents??
Unfortunatly it's the same people i seem to have trouble with each week.

LOL, total facial crackage. :D

Anyway, I got lucky with the dings out there, I got caught up in two, rolled down the track at one stage, but I was able to recover quickly. Worked my way up to Dick, Bazzil soon joined and there was a great three way race for the lead. Dick ripped himself slightly by pitting early so his tyres were buggered when it counted, and Bazz had a crash. So it just fell into place.

I'm off to Rotorua next week, have fun at the enduro peeps. :)
