Pukekohe 1968

Post by Driver X » Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:08 pm

Not sure if this is the right place to post this?

But I'm after a layout map of Pukekohe during the 1968 New Zealand Grand Prix also with the corner names on it, I've searched the web but there seems to be info on most other tracks except Pukekohe :ffs: so I thought some of you guy's might be able to help me out?

Normally I use http://theracingline.net/racingcircuits/racingcircuits, but doesn't have corner names for Puke. I have some more relevant sites bookmarked on my home PC, will check tonight.

Suggest you go through race reports for NZGPs in Motor Racing section on Bruce Sergent's excellent site http://www.sergent.com.au/nzmr.html, may use period names for corners.

The other two resources I suggest are the Graham Vercoe book "The Golden Era of New Zealand motor racing" (there are copies in many libraries) and TNF forum (http://forums.autosport.com/forumdispla ... forumid=10)

Why are you asking ?

Yeah that was an intersting era. You are scratching at my old RAM with those questions, but from what I remember reading

In 66 BP was the main sponsor for the NZ GP and continued that into and including 68. So I would imagine that there was at least one corner called BP. I think they were the first oil company to sponsor motor racing in NZ. The longer track was definetly used in 66 and I think in 67 they changed to the shorter track which is similar to what is raced today and I am 99 % sure that in 68 they used that same shorter track.

Vandem has put you onto a top resource there. Bruce Sergent, will know and if he doesn't he will be able to find out. His email address was <<<bsergent@iinet.net.au>>> but I am not sure if it still is.

Yes, I've found Bruce's site great! and the reason I want to get a track map is for a free game called Batracer, where I am making the 1967 F1 season and will have a couple of Non-Championship races

Yea, they went the other direction in 1967 I think, but it didn't have enough run off area.

And thanks for that E-mail address, I might send him something now
