Yeah a shame.
The BBC has a policy of never commenting on the identity of the Stig, who has a cult following around the world. A spokesman for Top Gear said yesterday: “We never comment on speculation as to who or what the Stig is.” Mr X was not available for comment.

Privately, staff at the corporation could not hide their frustration. “It’s bloody annoying,” one show insider said. “You wouldn’t write a piece saying that Santa didn’t exist.”
I wouldn't call him Santa ! Bet Clarkson was still pissed at the Times for even printing the article, seeing they all work for the same paper.

Maybe it's time for a new Stig for TG ?

shame it was printed...even though it hurt the program's trendy segment, it is still a mild form of sensorship if they didn't print it. After all, it is news worthy and millions wanted to know.

There were rumuors that Damon Hill (friendly with Clarkson) or Mark Webber (IIRC wore an "I am the Stig" T-shirt in Monaco pit lane several years ago) had a turn at being the Stig, but blogosphere consensus is that only one F1 driver has been the Stig.

So who?

Just to make sure people that want the mystery to remain, (am assuming that's what all the fuss is about) are able to read this

DO NOT list who it is or any hints/tips in this thread...if you want to then PM an admin to get the thread title changed to state as such ie "STIG exposed...spolier within"

Have deliberately avoided the above links so I can continue laughing at the "some say" comments :D

It is newsworthy but there was an agreement amongst the media not to publish. This kind of stuff happens a fair bit, both here in NZ and in the UK (previous UK version was when Prince Harry was serving in Afghanistan).

As the saying goes, you don't know what you don't know :D

I can see why the media chose to keep the Prince's OS details secret do to security considerations. Or why governments might sensor due to national security owever, making a hand shakes in the dark so Clarkson (or tv corporation) can continue to grab top ratings is sensorship anyway you cut it, and doesn't represent a free press. It's sad the info came out, but also good to see some media outlets are not biasest to favours or corruption.

Ok I came off strong.... :slap: hint taken :o

However, I do believe that the press/media must remain indifferent and unobstructed to within reason. While revealing Stig's identity was bad for the show, and its fans, it is good to see the press/media don't suppress news based on ratings which = money for others...

I think the reveal was due more to competition and sticking it to a competitor media organisation. Maybe someone pissed someone off and they wanted revenge, or someone was sleeping with someon's wife/girlfriend !

Even when giving the result to another company's tv show that has a following - eg: Survivor, Oscars, etc generally media will give a spoilers warning.

Ahem.

David Sears said it was him a year ago on Karcher Pitlane when he was interviewed while here for the A1 GP.
