TV3 Embarrasses Itself
On Sunday, the All Whites play New Zealand's biggest game of football in 27 years. TV3 Sports News has somehow failed to mention it for three days, maybe four. There has not been a single mention of the Bahrain play off on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday nights.
That is an appalling failure on the network's part.
It's even more embarrassing for TV3 given the excellent coverage being generated by other print, online and radio media. The game has been the major talking point on Radio Sport over the past few days, and the daily newspapers accompanied by their online arms (nzherald.co.nz and stuff.co.nz) have pumped out a lot of stories this week. They deserve credit. So does Prime's The Crowd Goes Wild, which has led with the All Whites most of the week. TV1 News' efforts have been typically poor, but at least they have managed the odd, fleeting mention of Ryan Nelsen and his state of fitness. It is also understood one of their reporters is currently bound for Manama.

TV3 News mentioned it on Thursday? Night, including that Ryan Nelson was playing, and also interviewed some guy from the Bahrain team

But there actors! watch the replays, they've all got the facial expresions of a broken bone before the opposition puts there arm on them or what ever, then they fall over..
But your right wide load, it is abit apalling for the news to not mention stuff all (IMO) about a national sports team about to play its biggest game.

Lawn Ferries the lot of em
I do hope the All Whites can pull a off Cinderella story though. The last time they did it was a fluke but you have to give credit where it is due.

I hope they put in a great showing, as it will be the last time the qualifying draw is done this way and from now on it will be much more difficult.
Imagine NZ being there, and both Argentina and Portugal miss out, both of which have must win games this weekend

Ahh nothing like the irrational
TVNZ manage the odd, fleeting story - they're ok.
TV3 miss the odd, fleeting story - they're baby eaters.
TV3 are too cheap to send a crew to Bahrain - they're worse than Hitler
TVNZ don't send a crew - never mind.
Prime News do nothing on their own - silence . . .

TVNZ had some news on the event- Better than nothing that was offered by TV3
TVNZ are sending a reporter to cover the game.
This is the biggest game in New Zealand history since the 82 world cup. And the fact that one of our major tv companies cant even offer a story on the fact is very poor in my view. More kiwis play football than rugby, but its still treated as a minority sport and the lack of exposure on the news for what is a important international game is a major disgrace in my opinion.

Re: TV3 Embarrasses Itself
I like soccer as a game but don't like watching on tv... However, it is a shame that there isn't more emphasis on just how well NZ is doing on the world stage this time round. NZ is a huge under-dog trying to stay in with a very difficult opposition. The Tua vs Cameron fight got more news which was really, a non event on the world stage unlike the World Cup.

I would say im a serious sports fan, And I try and watch everything I can. Sky channels talk more about what has happened rather than what is coming up. So for up to date sport news I turned to the news for the latest.Mario-C wrote:Any serious sports fan does not watch free to air tv for their sports news surely

Re: TV3 Embarrasses Itself
It is disappointing that there is alot less coverage of alot of kiwis that are doing well on the international stage, not just the All whites.
82 had awesome coverage of the build up to the world cup from memory. I do recall it being at fever pitch and most Kiwis knew the names of the players in the squad. Unlike now, most people wouldnt have a clue who is playing for the All whites.
Someone said above 82 was a fluke, but thats a rubbish comment. Heck we beat a strong FIJI side 13 nil as we had to beat them by that much to get to the next stage.

Making fun of Nascar fans is fun, and if they chase me, I just turn right.
