Re: The beginning of the end........
Nah, just the end of an almost single make race.
Fords equivalent of a Commodore and Holdens equivalent of a Falcon.
1986, them were the days, heaps of different cars.
Pushrods are history.

Re: The beginning of the end........
Anyone got any hints on the new rules. Far as im aware at this stage. Any Race car in the V8 supercar series. is not aloud to modify the body/outside shell what so ever. Wider wheel guards to allow for a wider wheel track for the race car.etc

Rizzal dont look to much into the links of pictures dirtnz has posted up, thats just a picture of a german touring car under there rules which is as close as you'll get to formula one car with a tin top roof.
But it will pretty much look like a standard merc without all the flared guards and fancy bits or if you like, itll look like they do now just with a merc badge on it.

Re: The beginning of the end........
yea sorry my bad should have said thats the current DTM race series car they refer to in the write up instead of concept car
Seen a few other pics aswell somewhere of a Nissan and Chrysler drawing so definitely sounds like alot of other manufacturers will be getting in on the v8 supercar scene considering it's still another 2 years away to already have 3 possibly new manufacturers in these early stages suggest it'll become fairly wide spread one would imagine.

Re: The beginning of the end........
What will really be interesting out of all this, is whether Ford/Holden finally ditch the ole reliable Pushrod technology for the OHC Tech that pretty much all other manufacturers use.

Not really, Chev have similar tech as well. Gotta remember that Holden and Ford both use dated engines out of the US market to comply with the rules, with them opening up now they could start getting some real power outta their engines and put these jap cars to restRizzal wrote:I believe to have think Ford Australia have already gone to that technology, They a looking at releasing in late 2011.Its a "5lt Coyote V8 OHC and vvti". so well head of Holden at this point.Bull wrote:What will really be interesting out of all this, is whether Ford/Holden finally ditch the ole reliable Pushrod technology for the OHC Tech that pretty much all other manufacturers use.

Japs will never get put to rest. Ive never seen an American based Vehicle /goes for Australia aswell come close to beating a porsche around a track. So id say keep a look out for Nissans Proto type/ for this series. And the specs. good chance they could produce something like the old 89' GTR.Probly not so 4wd.lol.or even use the R35 GTR shell base chassis. Something that Americans cant keep up with.

Re: The beginning of the end........
Also gotta remember that nowadays racing is different, most of the cars will be pretty similar just with different bodies/Aero and engines. Much like the current series, its all just a badge and bragging rights
Its a shame that racing has gone this way but oh wells
