Post by Growler » Tue Mar 22, 2011 11:01 pm

There are a lot of interesting motor racing videos out there so I thought I might start a post on it...

Took 7 years of technology to knock Murph of the top spot.

It was a great lap indeed, something people don't realise though is that the Technology plays only a 50% role in lap times, the rest of it comes down to track condition.

If the track is ripe for a good time then a good time will come, hence why lap records from 5-10 years ago still stand. Even in karting lap times can vary day by day by up to a second depending whether there has been rain in the last week, air temp, how much rubber on the track etc etc

Still, the nearest car was over a second away. I get what you're saying though.

Absolutely, the track condition was perfect for the car setup + driver.

He hooked the wrong gear... It was the lap of the gods, and it always will be. Was so far ahead of the competition. _b

Have to agree with the goosebumps, to spite how many times I have seen that video!

They don't often run four-wide in F1, but sometimes they run two-wide through a turn ... then through the next turn ... then through the next turn ...

And a teaser for the upcoming rFactor version of the Targa Florio / Little Madonie circuit, here is Vic Elford (1970s sports car / rally ace and occasional GP driver) covering the 1972 event:
