Nascar 2012
Ok so this is a motor racing forum, so I've decided to have some discussion about motor racing
As some of you may know I love my Nascar, so does Rifty any other oval racing fans out there?
These are the Points after Bristol
A few points of note
- Kasey Kahne, has been massively quick, no luck at all for his new team at Hendrick, another bad result and he's going to have to start Qualifying his way into the field on time
-If you didn't know Penske is moving from Dodge to Ford in 2013, meaning at this stage there will only be 1 Dodge car in the entire field next year in Robbie Gordon, whilst in the last few weeks Dodge have shown off their 2013 Cup car....will they even be back?
-Brian Vickers made his return at Bristol last week, after being a general Douchebag for the latter half of 2011, he drove a fantastic race to nab 5th, very clean and professional, perhaps auditioning for his career?
-Marcos Ambrose showing genuine pace on Ovals, perhaps he has a shot at an oval win, or even to make the chase
-The usual suspects are all up the top of the points already, and with Jimmy Johnson's penalty from Daytona being turned over it's pretty run of the mill in the top 15, Jeff Gordon is struggling however, maybe he's started getting too old for the sport.
-Danica Patrick is back for California, does anyone give a toss?
Anyone else out there!!

Not a fan of Kyle Busch, but he timed this to perfection!

Yeah man, I'm into Nascars. I wish it was on free to air TV. Late last year I did a hot lap in a Nascar at Las Vegas Speedway. It was awesome

Awesome, would love to experience Nascar live, and have a ride in one.
Boss told me a while ago he had a friend who paid for a drive at a super speedway, something like $1500 Kiwi, but the car was restricted to 200mph.

Interesting race @ California, with Smoke winning again.
Was a shame about the rain though, would have loved to see it go the full 200 laps

In kind of Nascar news
http://www.speedcafe.com/2012/03/20/amb ... sh-debate/
"Seven years may have passed since Marcos Ambrose left the V8 Supercars Championship, but, as it turns out, his past racing life is never far from his mind.
The two-time V8 Supercars champion turned full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup driver recently told NASCAR reporter Jeff Gluck that he regrets he didn’t “punch” Greg Murphy during the pair’s heated exchange at Bathurst in 2005."
Interesting read actually, bit out of the blue though

Re: Nascar 2012
There's no doubting that Ambrose is a talented driver, and that he and Murph for whatever reasons didn't see eye to eye, but to come out with a statement that he wished he was physically violent towards another driver 7 years ago is stupid.
Let it go Ambrose, let it go...

Re: Nascar 2012
Nascar is just about the only top level racing that I dont follow.
I have made an effort to try and watch a few races but have found it a very dull watch not to mention having to listen to god awful yank commentary.
What is it that you guys really like about it?
Also Ambrose is a twat..Nascar is a great place for him

Re: Nascar 2012
Hard to explain, some tracks are god awful, Michigan and California are 2 examples that imediately come to mind. But places like Bristol and Martinsville (this weekend) make for fantastic watching.Mario-C wrote:What is it that you guys really like about it?
Also the drivers all seems to hate each other, race really bloody hard all the time, and there's 43 of them within a small tracks makes for so.me interesting races.
And Marcos Ambrose........Was coming around, he's back to being a twat in my book, maybe he's jelly that he's never won Bathurst

Probably the last appeal for Jeremy Mayfield to come back into the sport after being caught having methamphetamine in his system some years ago.

Re: Nascar 2012
This week at Martinsville, probably one of the more entertaining races to watch for the year.
Kasey Kahne has pole, ahead of Harvick, then Hamlin.
Brian Vickers is back again and qualified 6th.
Surprise team for me this year has no doubt been Michael Waltrip Racing, all 3 Toyota's have been fast throughout the year and again have qualified well, will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow morning

In other news it seem Bristol is getting another makeover
After it got resurfaced in 2007 it became a multi-grove track, thus less bumping and banging........fans don't like it, so time to change.

Re: Nascar 2012
Pretty uneventful Martinsville for 490 laps, then David Reutimann brings out an odd caution, then this......
Kinda felt sorry for the Hendrick cars (especially Gordon) as they between them had dominated the day and should have won easily.
Ryan Newman wins, overcoming a speeding penalty from earlier in the day.
Low key race though, not many cautions, no pay-backs or anything, kind of a shame
We have a rest week for Easter then we're at Texas for a night race (Sunday afternoon our time for those with Sky)
Going back to David Reutimann he's now 34th equal on points, why does this matter? he's racing the same number as Danica Patrick will be running in her remaning 9 races, it seems there may be a pretty good chance that she will have to qualify on speed alone when she hops back into the car, and if she can't I think quite alot of people wil be pissed (not me though, I hate the b*tch )

Re: Nascar 2012
I've always been keen as beans for Nascar. Just a problem of getting numbers and then sustaining it for the league, it is one of those things that you really need a good field to be enjoyable (AT Least 16+, ideally mid to high 20's at least)

Maybe a one off race would draw numbers, not so much a league.

Re: Nascar 2012
Having mixed results with the VHR mod and its fortnightly updates over at SRNZ. Started off at Fontana with 10 lap races using version 1.6 and I think that was about the only track in the series that was compatible with that version. Following week was using version 1.7 at Charlotte 15 lap races and the tyres were buggered just over the halfway mark so had to turn damage off to finish off the remaining races. Thursday just gone was using version 1.8 (lol) at Martinsville 50 lap races. Tyres were fine but the brakes were gone come lap 10...
Watkins Glen coming up next.

Nascar is the only thing I have been racing in Iracing, although I haven't fired that up in months.
