Formula 5000 revival series Powerbuilt meeting 5-6 Jan

Post by Ggav » Fri Dec 14, 2007 10:47 am

Am thinking about flying down for the weekend to watch the racing, couple questions
Where's the best place to stay within walking distance of track. How much can i expect to pay for taxi from airport to the track.
Who else is going ?

I doubt you'll find a place to stay within walking distance to the track.

I might be going

26-27 Jan 2008
Tasman Revival Series Round 1 - Pukehoke

Expecting:-
30+ F5000s
35+ F Juniors

Also the 40th Anniversary of Hulmes '67 win with a dinner etc.
Greta Hulme and many others will be speaking.

*********

02-03 Feb 2008

Tasman Revival Series Round 2 - Taupo

Same cars etc.. this one I'll be going to!!
So if anyone is keen on transport from Palmy Nth to Taupo I have a few spare seats in a very economical car. ($65 @ $1.63/L return to Puke)

^ Think he is, 5-6 Jan Im 99% is a Ruapuna Meeting...

If you are taxing from the airport to ruapuna, I'd Imagine it'd only cost you $10-15 as Ruapuna is reasonably close to the airport..

That will be part of the Skope Classic wouldnt it?

Cheers,Chris

Well worth going. I went 2 years ago, also running were ex-Hulme M23 and M26 from UK. I'll go again this year.

Best thing was open pits, good to be close to cars and chat to some drivers / owners. I even got to sit in a 68 Lola-Chev F5000, the closest to being in a real GPL (69) car that I suspect I will ever get.

i remember those McLarens at the Skope. The M26 was brought over from UK due to the ship being delayed and wouldnt make it here for the racing, so he flew the M26 over. The M26 was ex James Hunt one.
Nice Machines those.
I didnt go to last years Skop, but intend to this year.
5-6th Jan isnt that also the Lady Wigram trophy for the Toyotas?

yup, Frank Lyons flew over the M26 (and perhaps other cars?) after shipping problems.

and this is the car that I was able to sit in: http://www.forix.com/8w/tasman70-75/photos/photo_9.html :D

After talking to a few mates about it and checking out the prices for plane tickets $400 have now decided not to go to the christchurch round it will just be too expensive and we'll see the same cars at Auckland and Taupo anyways. plus it will cost next to nothing to get to the two north island events.

I find the tier2 stuff much more interesting and relaxed drivers and teams under less pressure and much more friendly. and you just can't beat grid of f5000's coming over the hill for rolling start at pukekohe 95dB yeah right.

I've heard a rumour that the 'sound nazi' is actually a F5000 fan, and during the F5000 races the equipment will be inadvertantly switched off :D

next weekend, looking forward to it. those from KSR that are going, we should arrange a meeting place. would be cool to meet some faces to match the names.

Edit: just brought my ticket today from Sydenham park, only $20 for both days. Apparently some big fields in all classes, although only 14 TRS expected for lady wigram trophy race. 19 F5000s are entered which will be great. i'll be taking the camera so will post shots afterwards.

Other than me and Viking, anyone else going?
looks like weather is going to be good. Dan'sManfield has KSR members watching from the stands, we could do the same for the Southerners for Hugh's Ruapuna ;)
