HDMI Cable Question
Is there really a noticable difference from using a gold plated HDMI cable at $160something bucks compared to a $20something cable?
I have always used good cables for my home theatre but I do recall someone saying that HDMI is digital? so it doesn't make a difference.
Can someone clafiry this?

Re: HDMI Cable Question
Yup, it's a great rip off folks being told to buy Monster cables.
Buy any HDMI cable, plug it in and away you go.

Re: HDMI Cable Question
If you can get v1.3 cables then you are better off, I can't remember why but I was told something about them in sales training.
I have a $50 hdmi cable from noel leeming and $2 one from work and it doesn't make a difference to me.

I got a cheap-ass HDMI cable...$40 for a massive 10M run...and it works perfectly.

Re: HDMI Cable Question
Cheap HDMI cables have been known to cause some TVs to freeze up when connected to media center pcs and MyskyHDi. Just make sure it's 1.3 compliant, and if you get freezing issues, it will possibly be your cheap cable. I would personally stay away from the sub $20 and go for $60-$100.
I can't tell the difference from a $100 to a $1000 cable, but some people say they can. They say the $1000 cable will have less jitter on the edges of the signal, and jitter makes the difference.
However as with all the hype, if YOU cannot tell the difference, then don't pay the difference.

Re: HDMI Cable Question
I don't see how a digital cable could cause a freeze up from a media pc or similar connected to the TV
As bold says, there's squat difference between the expensive and el-cheapo ones
the only thing moster about the Monster HDMI cables is the price !

Heh...if someone paid $1000 for a cable, then of course they're going to say they can see the difference. Otherwise they'd have to admit they're a complete twat.Heppy wrote:Cheap HDMI cables have been known to cause some TVs to freeze up when connected to media center pcs and MyskyHDi. didn't you know that extra quality turns those 1's and 0's in to bigger 1's and 0's ?
it's like this:
el-cheapo HDMI: 000111010011000111
MONSTOR HDMI: 000111010011000111

Cheap cable TV froze 2 or 3 times a day.
OK quality cable no more problems.
(Don't know why? But I know what fixed it.)

Re: HDMI Cable Question
Yep $1,000 cables are crazy overkill, (You will be paying for extremely high quality copper or silver, and very good insulation, and high quality manufacturing.) but $20 cables are asking for trouble (cheap copper, cheap insulation and poor manufacturing)Skuzzlebutt wrote:Heh...if someone paid $1000 for a cable, then of course they're going to say they can see the difference. Re: HDMI Cable Question
Hey guys you know on the back of the video cards they got like a high quality plug and a normal blue color plug.
If i get a high quality plug for the back of the PC with a HDMI connector and HDMI cable to plug in to the big LDC tv that we have, Will it have beta quality than the normal computer cable (the blue tiped ones)
It worked out to be like $100 for the pc video plug and HDMI 1.5m cable.

Re: HDMI Cable Question
The high quality plug is DVI (white socket rather than blue) the quality should be better using the HDMI cable as your going digital - digital rather than using the VGA cable (blue one) which is analogue - digital (internal of the LCD)Shane[] wrote:Hey guys you know on the back of the video cards they got like a high quality plug and a normal blue color plug.

I'm guessing either 1366 x 768 or 1920 x 1080

Re: HDMI Cable Question
LOL, HD ready will be 1366 x 768Shane[] wrote:well the screen is a 42"
And Full HD will be 1920 x 1080
Rule of thumb the cheaper ones are HD ready and the Dearer ones are full HD.
Although there are some bagain full HD deals at the mo.
If its more than a year old and you didn't mortage the house to get it, it will be HD ready.
All else fails read the manual, look in specifications.
