Totally off topic, but does anyone do any music WAV file editing ?
I make up compilation CD's for background music at work.
There are 2 problems :
1) Reducing the Dynamic Range within a track ; and
2) Getting tracks from diferent sources to all sound at the same volume.
I'v got the second problem solved thru using a freeware program called "MP3Gain".
But the first problem is the difficult one.
I have tried some programs that add Compression (which makes the loud parts of a track quieter) but I can't seem to find any programs to add Automatic Gain Control (to make the quieter parts louder) . . . you hear the effect of AGC on radio broadcasts : when a quite section starts to "swell".
I HAVE tried "Wavelab" which has AGC, but there are no controls over how much it applies.
If I can't find a program that does what I want, then the other options are :
1) Find a "Plug In" for an audio editor like "Soundforge Studio" or the freeware "Audacity" ; or
2) Find someone who can write a simple DOS batch utility to run on the files.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
