Arrghh..... komputer ist kaput! Help!!

Post by Danman » Tue Nov 09, 2010 4:14 pm

My main gaming PC has just died for no apparent reason.
I was looking at the iracing website, when I got a brief blue screen of death, then reboot - only now it won't reboot. It hangs at "verifying DMI data pool..."

I'm having a quick google to see what I can find... any experts here have an idea?

Oh, Mobo is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
CPU is a 9550? - dual core 2.93 ghz anyway
4 Gb ram - GSKILL
640Gb HD - dunno

Sorry no expert but in case you dont have access to a PC to google....

1) It may be a loose connection to your hard drive...
2) It may be the hard drive or at least the master boot record is knackered
3) It may be the bios
4) It may be the motherboard

Go into your BIOS and make sure that the hard drive with the Windows installed is correctly set as the primary boot device. Choose the HDD as primary boot device, followed by CD-ROM/Floppy. Also make sure that the HDD is set to auto-detect within the BIOS utility.

If you have any discs or diskettes in the CD-ROM or floppy drive(s) then please remove these and try and boot up again, this is to make sure the system is not trying to boot from the said device.

Make sure ALL cables are 100% connected to the system and are not loose at any scale. If any of the above does not work then try and reset the CMOS using the CMOS jumper.

If still nothing above fixes the issue then we may have to replace/fix the master boot record on the hard drive as this may be the cause

Remove all unnecessary hardware and see how it goes.
As I understand it, DMI is the standard for identifying system hardware, so it's most likely a shoddy connection somewhere or some failed hardware.
Try booting with just mobo, hard-disc, and minimal RAM.
