Id say aslong as it has an ethernet port in the back for a hardwired connection as opposed to a wireless 1 youll be fine, just be careful if the mrs picks up the laptop and your start lagging.

I've got a 3Com Office connect router and it has never given me trouble. I've had that for about 3 - 4 years now.
I would stay away from D-Link. The Linksys works Ok but is pretty cheap.
I have been told that the Routers from Asus are pretty good...

Have a TP Link router here, sounds like the same model you mention as has the wireless N on it with 4 gig ports on the back, have run both wired and wireless in the past for gaming and no issue with either, running wired now as the routers at one end of the house and my media machine is at the other and the wireless drops out everynow and then due to the distance, moving the phone jack to the middle of the house soon though so should get better coverage, not to mention sitting out in the back yard surfing if needed :)

Have run the 3Com ones at work in the past as well and never had any issues with them, seemed very user friendly
