Graphics card advise....

Post by DraK » Thu Dec 29, 2011 9:07 am

I am using Softth to give me triple screen play on my nvidia graphics cards and am getting tired of some of it's little quirks although it generally works well.

Looking getting a Ati 6970 graphics card, anyone got any comments on them or using them?

Who else uses eyefinity here?

I'm running a 2BG 5870 Eyefinity6 (but only using 3 screens) myself and I can't fault it.
The only issue I had was that I needed W7 to make it recognise more than 2 monitors, but after that was addressed it's been awesome. One minor problem I do have (which I don't know how to fix) is that when I run the screens at a res of 5760x1080 (3x 1920HD) none of the screens line up exactly perfect even after tuning them. However when I change the res to 6020 everything lines up absolutely perfect across the 3 screens however there is a little bit of over lap when only the centre monitor is being used. Otherwise the biggest issue I had was finding a stand which could hold them all which would work with my sim.

I will third it, a very good card. The only racing game I currently use it on is iracing at ~ 6000x1080 and the framerates are good with most things up high.

Going to 3 screens turned out a bit of a mission, longish story short Ive put in two gforce 460 v3 cards in SLI, one card gave me 19000 winmarks and two 21000 winmarks, not good you would think but winmarks only cover so much..So now I run full res with absolutely everything on extreme in the nvidia settings and ingame..looks insanely nice and nothing below 100fps anywhere. A bit of an update, I got sick of 3 screens a couple of days ago, the forever looking over 3 screens all day just to do simple stuff so back to the 40" LCD again, but at least i get min 400fps at 1900x HD, wish I could turn more on to make it look even better. Mine is a I7 950, I did a 580 in an I5 2500K last week and it got 23000 3dmarks, just some info.

Three screens were good but the 40" is ok as well, just will crash into the guy next door every now and then.

Isnt there an option that when you run at 1920 resolution that it only uses one screen and you set it for the middle one.

That will keep you happy using the desktop but allow the side screens for gaming. I dont think I could go back to single screens, I am far to used to nearly 180 deg wrap around for racing to go back lol.

You can easily set it up for a single screen but it's a big thing to get back to 3 again (flick this/that push that/this), and a pain after a while plus to run the projector as well was a compLETE pain.

Going back to a 40" isn't so bad, if it was a 24" I'd prolly stick with the 3 wide, I still have them to throw on for the big event races.
Sry to take it off topic.

Ah, I see, I am not familiar with the nvidia surround.

If the OP goes eyefinity and only wants to use the center monitor you can just set the res to 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 etc the usual way in windows and set his games to 5970x1080 in game and the side ones will come to life.

you can also do it with nvidia, change resolution from desktop to drop it to the middle monitor instead of using the nvidia control panel and messing with surround.(this can be done from within a game if it does not support triple screens that well..

Hello,

I have been very happy with my eyefinity triple screen setup. However, I did have to get three identical monitors (make and model) to correctly use the bezel tool. With dissimilar monitors this feature would not work. This was awhile ago now so they may have corrected this but something to be aware of. All the best with your new setup :-)
