Internet issues

Okay so ive gotten sick off the our internet dropping all the time ... when ever someone calls us and we answer or we make a call our internet drops its only happened since we got a new phone the modem is a THOMSON TG585v7

anyone had this before? or know how to fix it?

Sorry so half by hijack your thread, but im also sick of having my internet drop. My issue is completely different to yours as when ever mine drops it keeps saying "the DNS server is not responding" I can not figure it out but if anyone can help both of us. It would be fantastic _b

Give your IPS a call. They can check your settings etc and sort it out.

Done that many of times and they keep saying theres nothing wrong at both ends but I'll get off the phone to them and 2 mins later, bam it will drop again. :mad:

Sounds like the infamous, and completely unexplainable, random-occurrance Windows 7 DNS issue. You're running Windows 7?


If so....
In control panel, go to "network and sharing centre", then click on "change adapter settings". (I'm not on a windows box at the moment, so I'm working from memory here....some of the names may be a little wrong).
Right click on your LAN adapter and select "properties".
Select "TCP/IPv4" and click "properties".
Select "use the following DNS servers", and enter "8.8.8.8" as the primary dns server, and "4.4.4.4" as the secondary.
Then click "ok" and close everything.

Then repeat the process for your WIFI adapter if you have one.

You'll now be using google's DNS servers, instead of your ISP's servers, and should have no further trouble.

Yes im running Win7 Ultimate 64bit.. And Slobb mate if this works i swear if i ever meet you ill have to kiss u Not gay of course :P :larf:

Well that went well, i done what you said slobb and lost my connection completely lol! I changed it back to Normal and still go nothing. So i rung slingshot and they done ther bit and then told me they have no training on how TP LINK modems work so they transferd me to TP LINK helpline ans no one is there. Looks like no internet for me for the night.

Probly sounds like im blaming you slobb but im not :)

Hopefully it might sort its sh!t out and reboot into life

try this:

Instead of putting the numbers in the DNS server on the router, click the box above that say automatically acquire (or something to this effect).

This may help with the DNS server assigning the right numbers based on your ip address.

Are you sure you entered those numbers into the DNS box? Not the IP Address box?
If you set your computer's IP address to 8.8.8.8 you'll definitely lose your connection. Leaving your IP address to auto, but manually setting your DNS server to 8.8.8.8 definitely shouldn't kill your connection. Double check that your computers IP address isn't 8.8.8.8 by typing "ipconfig" into a command prompt.
(click the start menu, type "cmd", once the box opens type "ipconfig" and hit enter. It'll display a whole bunch of text. Scroll up and find the section relating to your Cabled Ethernet Adapter, or LAN adapter, and check what the IP address is)
If the displayed IP address is 8.8.8.8 then you've definitely changed the wrong section. It will most likely be either 192.168.?.? or 10.1.1.?

Edit: I see peeps talking about you changing the DNS settings in your router.... I was suggesting changing the DNS setting on the computer, NOT the router. Although changing the router's DNS settings should work fine as well, I'd personally just change the settings of the computer that's giving you the trouble.

The only reason I suggested the change at the router is that I had issues with my internet not working and this is what Slingshot recommend I try. Just something else that may help :)

I think it depends on the area you're in. High volume areas seem to have more issues than lower volume areas like Blenheim.

Mmm well after a new modem and a shit load of troubles i've managed to get internet back!, Weather i still try change the DNS server i dont know but if this crap connection keeps up, i'm seriosuly looking at saying hello to inspire :cute:
