Servo Wheel,

Post by Chomp » Tue Nov 11, 2014 7:51 pm

If anyone is interested I am ordering parts to put together a servo wheel. Just a quick not for anyone that would like to know how it goes if it's some they you might like to think about.

I am not going the cheapest route so the main parts will cost about $1500 but it should be something nice that you currently can't buy for less that about $4kusd.

I am keen to see myself how it goes :)

Obviously not much interest in this kind of wheel but I did get it finished and had my first laps with it yesterday. I can say a direct drive wheel is awesome!

The amount of force it can generate compared to other wheels. For example, I think a fantec CSW was around 5NM force and this one will peak 25NM.

Driving cars around using the full forces at the wheel that a real driver would have is kind of neat, and not just a gimmick, I think it helps.

Here is a picture before it was mounted, gives you an idea of what it is, a big industrial servo with a rim connected :)

I will make an offer to people in auckland who have been around the forums for a while to give it a go if it is something you may be interested in doing for yourself. At this point the only thing on the market similar is the leo bodnar simsteering wheel, costing about $6000nzd landed, ouch.

That looks fantastic.

If I was up your way I'd be very keen to give it a go _b
