Can anyone help a sad sack get his ATMega8 programmed

Post by Viking » Mon Feb 27, 2006 10:55 pm

Ok, heres the sad tale.

Trying to bulid a joystick, found out about MJoy, using a Avr ATMEGA8 to pretend its a USB Joystick.

Heres me prob - trying to programme it with printer port and ponyprog2000.
But it just wont talk to the thing. Tried two different pin configs I found online for the printer port but both are no go.

I'm a real noob at this, so can anyone help, before I go mental. What f'in pin config works for the printer port. Is there an easy way to use a com port instead. Should i try using linux instead of winXP.

Any help from anyone thats used these things before would be appreciated.

Finally got the programming working. :)

Solution: Use my linux box with ponyprog2000. WinXP is a <insert colourful cursing here> when it comes to getting access to bits on com and parrallel ports :(

Google port95/nt (might be port95nt - works on XP to) for future reference. It lets applications get low level access to com/parallel ports so things like LCD smartie and such work.

Didn't cross my mind that that was your problem when I read it.
Cop: Are you OK?
Randolph: I don't know. I'm kinda ****ed up in general, so it's hard to gauge.
