Need some IT help please

Post by Prometheus » Tue Mar 07, 2006 9:16 am

Setup :
- 6600GT video card
- desk with monitor #1, plugged into VGA out
- raceseat with monitor #2, plugged into DVI -> VGA convertor
- AMD 3200+ with 1GB ram

Goal :
run Nascar and rFactor on display #2 only
run BF2 on display #1 only
run XP as cloned onto both monitors

Can the above be achieved easily ?

So how the heck do I do this ?

I've played around with profiles under nVidia properties, set the desktop to clone, but can also select the BF2.exe file, set the hardware acceleration to NOT clone and the thing still cones to both monitors.

I've not really played with multi monitor much at all.. cant afford a second monitor.

Inspector however has done just the time you are attempting.

From memories of all my tinkering with dual-displays across Nvidia cards, it's a "fun" challenge.
I will remind myself of the settings when I get home, and offer something then.

Are you wanting to show something different on the display your not using?
If not then you just set the displays to clone and turn the monitor you're not using off. Only problem with cloning desktop is that it only plays videos on one (which can be set), not both.

That's what I'm doing at the moment - turning off the raceseat monitor.

I was more concerned about a performance hit with the video card send out two lots of stuff - or, does this not really matter ??

No performance hit that I'm aware of. The card does one rendered scene, then sends it to both of the outputs.

AFAIK the performance hit for using a second monitor is negligible, so if thats your only concern I wouldn't worry, and carry on turning off the monitor your not using :)

Oh, that's kinda good and bad.

Was looking at something to blame for my sucky BF2 score and current driving status :D

I have a similar setup.

AMD3700 with 6800GT running a 19in CRT as primary desktop display for Windoze and BF2 and a 20in CRT on my raceframe.

I have a hotkey bound to flip between the display's, it disables the inactive screen so I can leave it powered on.

Matt.

Nope no clone action for me.

I am not in front of my home pc so can't remember 100% how it's configured but I am pretty sure that it's just in the Nvidia applet that sits in the taskbar.

I have a hotkey set to switch between primary and secondary monitor. If you need more info when I get home later on I will post a screenie of the setup.

Cheers
Matt.
