You can't do a system restore because a restore date doesn't exist.
The bold date indicates that your computer can do a system restore on that date. No bold = no restore.
Make sure you have it set - control panel, then system then system restore. Click on settings and set it to look at a hard drive for restore. Make sure you haven't checked "turn off system restore" which by the looks of it, you have.
You can usually access it via the start menu - start, accessories, system tools and system restore. You can then force your system to manually create a restore date.
Another issue - although minor - is don't constantly install lots of different things to try out, then try to restore hoping it will save you. System restore is helpful, but it wont save you if you corrupt your system with lots of pgm's being installed for testing purposes.

When you create a system restore date manually, you can also add a comment like "installing FSX now" or whatever really, it makes not an ounce of difference.
Anything can be typed there.

You can't do a system restore to a date you want it to, because a restore date doesn't exist.
