ASDL Modem/Router Recommendation

Post by bcingu » Wed Oct 17, 2007 11:52 am

I've been having lots of "Lost Connection" problems playing rFactor. In my reading of various forums it seems that lots of people have had this problem, and it's mostly to do with dodgy Modems.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a modem they know works well, which they don't have any problems with rFactor. I currently have a DSE 7916

TIA

We had issues like that with a Linksys router - a reasonably cheap end one.
Hippy and I use a linux box now for our stuff and it never disconnects randomly from things like rfactor.

Some others will be on routers tho that work with rfactor :) but basicaly - don't get a cheap linksys if you get a linksys one lol :D

If you are on ADSL, then there are a couple I (not Inspire) have had experience with in getting poeple playing online without issues.

Thomson Speedtouch 546 v6 (no wifi)
3com 3CRWDR101A-75 (802.11b/g wifi)

+1 for the 3Com, that's the one I've got now. Does a good wireless too.

I think the 3com riven has listed is the same as what prom has, vr concepts has sold lots of these and had no problems with them (apart from one faulty one)
One particular instance fixed a customers problem by replacing their linksys which was disconnecting.

Thanx all.

A 3Com has been ordered.
Hopefully I'll stay connected from now on.

And that was . . . ME! :D Had a faulty router, got replaced by those nice boys at VR Concepts with another one and it has been rock solid ever since.

So what you are saying is my disconnections are due to my router and not the line.

I have a D-Link Wireless ADSL Router 4 LAN Port - DSL-G604T

Could be either. I had a lot of noise in the line (Rural line) that was causing mine to drop. Riven and Inspire helped get that fixed, all good now. I have the 3Com above as well, it's been fine.

Those Linksys are crap, get rid of it now ;p

I ended up going with a nix box as my router, but a good 3com or other router should do the trick too.

What do you need for a nix box, can an old P3 450 do the job?
