Once you get passed about 5-6mbit/s the speedtest is no longer accurate, as the file you download is too small, and/or the speedtest host doenst have the upstream capacity at the time for a proper reading.

Example.. I jsut did a test from work to San Francisco as below
Image

OK, 10mbit, not bad.. funny then how I managed to get 24Mbit sustained from a file mirror hosted in San Francisco when downloading a 1.9GB file.

http://speedtest.inspire.net.nz/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is available to test also, its just not a *paid* setup, so it doesnt get listed on the speedtest main site.

Just looking at changing plans and lowering our cap as we go no where near 5gig a month let alone 10gig that we have. Would we be better changing to Fullspeed upload for gaming from our current 128kbs plan??

Yeah, Orcon have it over most other IP's around, they also seem to be leading the unbundling process.

I think what he means, is that he has unlimited downloading, no caps on the amount of GB he can download. But the down side is he is capped to 256k download and 128k upload speeds.

Seems a bit dependent on where ya go. Wellington was 1300, whereas Napier and Auckland gave 4500.
