RAM Question

Post by Liquid » Fri Jul 29, 2005 11:46 am

Ok i have looking into new ram lately and i have never been one for the high end low CL rating stuff (i cant seem to justify the more cost due to new standards coming out)

So i was wanting to know what do gamers around here use for gaming.

General/Standard Speeds like CL3
High end low CL2 (expensive name brands)

Do you really see a performance gain in gaming using CL2 to justify the cost.

As far as i know (which isnt much) :D high end ram is more important if you want to O/C, as for gaming i dont think it will make much difference. I would go middle of the road and get some CL2.5, I use Geil value CL2.5

Unless you're going to overclock, I suggest Kinston or Kingmax. Im not sure about the timings.

Liquid if you havent already gone and bought some RAM I have a solution for you.

I will have in my posession (when the rest of my parts arrive) a set of GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) Ultra Platinum CL2 DDR400 Dual Channel kit.

This was given to me and is surplus to requirements.

The timings on this particular RAM are 2-6-6-3

Cheapest price I can find at the moment in NZ is $300.75

For simmers (first option for Liquid) I can do this for $240

Let me know if you are interested. Anyone else can also. Liquid has first rights however.

Cheers

Thanks Skelo, iam looking at 2x 1gig and was just wondering if going from CL3 to CL2 was really worth the money and is it noticeable in games.
