Inspire TF2 Server

Post by Bold » Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:27 pm

Had a good bit of fun playing on the inspire server tonight, but its pretty obvious that some server settings need to be changed..

Here's a couple of things I think should be set:

Map timelimit ~40min
Round limit 2
auto team balance on

It also seemed like the map would change whenever 3 points were capped in steel, maybe there is another setting for that?

Enable the 'rtv' command. (I have no idea if this is a third party plugin or what, but it is useful)

Maplist:
Gold Rush
Badwater
Fast Lane
Granary
Well
Dustbowl
steel

Post your ideas for settings below :)

You guys also need to set your mics up for the ingame voice chat so we can get some good team tactics going :)

yes the time limit definitely needs to be increased for CP maps - stuck on 20 mins by the looks.
Yer, Auto ballance needs to be on.
That was a bout it really, the time limit thing I would guess is why nobody uses the server - people were leaving because we never got to finish any cp maps :(

But we can send a config to riven, we just have to make one, have you made one yet bold? :)
RTV I'm pretty sure is a 3rd party addon.

maplist:
same as bolds but without Granary - granary is too big and everyone hates it.
add 2fort to the list too tho, that's a good one :)

We can jump on TS for mic's - I turn the in-game voice chat off so I can't hear the whiny little kiddies.

I've been looking up the server settings this morning. I dont think its the timelimit that's ending the maps, usually that will only roll at the end of a map, when time = 0.

There is another var:
mp_winlimit 10 //Max number of rounds one team can win before server changes maps

Possibly this is set to 3? and is rolling whenever a team get 3 points, (3 control points on steel etc).

I'm happy to have a go at admining the server if you like. If I can get a copy of the current server.cfg, I'll edit it and send it back :)

I like granary, and not 2fort :P

I got bored today, so I set up the TF2 dedicated server on my nix box to play around with.

mp_winlimit is the var that was causing the maps to switch early. We can set this to 0, and just use:

mp_timelimit 40 // game time per map in minutes
mp_maxrounds 2 // Max number of rounds to play before server changes maps

The team balance flags should be set to:

mp_autoteambalance 1 // Eanble team balancing
mp_autoteambalance_delay 60 // Time after the teams become unbalanced to attempt to switch players.
mp_autoteambalance_warning_delay 30 // Time after the teams become unbalanced to print a balance warning
mp_teams_unbalance_limit 1 // Teams are unbalanced when one team has this many more players than the other team. (0 disables check)

I'm going to play around with some of the admin mods on my server to get rtv etc working, although Riven may not want these on the server as it looks like they need manual updating with some patches to TF2.

RTV shouldn't matter if we limit it to popular maps and have a fairly short number of rounds limit (like 2) :)

Changed the settings to recommended. One thing, the *nix server doesnt understand the following:-

Unknown command "mp_autoteambalance_delay"
Unknown command "mp_autoteambalance_warning_delay"

Took the suggested mapcycle with Bazzil's suggestion of replace Granary with 2Fort :)

Thanks Dave. Looking forward to so more TF2 over the coming weekend. I have 2 or 3 spare desks, maybe we should do a little mini LAN?

settings seem to work :)

The other thing you dould do riven is put the map rotation as part of the server name: Inspire Net TF2 [gold,dust,badwater...]

Then ppl know it ain't got ghey maps on it and are more likely to join
