May be quite good given who's involved, NFS meets GTR anyone

Thanks mate, I've been thinking about purchasing this so would love to hear what you think of it.

The reviews so far seem pretty good, sort of 80% sim / 20% arcade with no aids etc...

Id say don't get it for now, until they patch it.

A LOT of people are struggling to even get the game to load without crashing, and theres a lot of threads on the EA Messageboards with 101 bugs, so Id say hold off untill they release a patch ... which better be soon ... I have a Need For Speed :larf:

Ive managed to get the game working, but there seems to be a problem with ATI cards and very low FPS on the game, and there are still a lot of people who cant even get it to work :(

On the plus side, it does have FFB support for most wheels. Will report more when I get a decent FPS to drive on!

A bit more tinkering around and doing everything people have tried on EA Forums, and Ive finally got it running @ a steady FPS.

Its quite obvious its a console port, as there isnt even menu mouse support - and people are complaining that Keyboards dont even work to control the car.

Ive been using my controller as I got sick of setting my wheel up just to have it crash on me, might set it back up again now though since Ive got it running.

Ive been racing with all Aids off, AI on Hardest etc etc, and for a console racer id say its pretty sim, but compared to the likes of rFactor and GTR etc its kinda arcadey. Id say its pretty much in bang in the middle, kinda like the TOCA/V8 Supercar Series was.

The racing itself is pretty good, the AI actually drive quite well, and take into account your own driving, ie if you hit them to get passed, block them etc, they will start nudging you and defending there line a bit. It doesn't have as strong of a "rubberband" effect as older NFS games did, but it is still there.

Damage models are pretty good, and the ingame cockpit - wow. Very very awesome. The bonnets push up if you hit the wall head on, the camera moves inside the cockpit when braking, turning etc, but its not overdone like it was in Grid where you could get quite sick from it.

Car customization is nowhere near what it was in older NFS Titles, you can still paint your car, upgrade rims, add vinyls etc, but body kits are purely for performance, and upgrades the whole body kit in one hit ie you cant choose between a range of Front bumpers and mix n match with side skirts etc.

Id still hold off buying the game for now, as aside from the Crashes, Jerky FPS performance issues etc, theres things like grass growing through the track and pitgirls loading stuck in the middle of cars.

Other then that, it has potential to be a great fun title, but isn't anywhere near as Sim as it sounds, albeit it still isn't arcade.

2gb DDR2 Ram
1.7GHz Dual Core Processor (1.7GHz per core)
1GB ATi 4670
Vista 32-bit.

To be honest it seems quite hit and miss, people running lower end PCs are getting twice as many FPS as me, and people running SLI GTX295 nVidia cards and Quad Core things are struggling to even run the game :larf:

LOL I'm wondering whether to buy it on the Xbox 360 or the PC. If it feels good with a wheel then I'll buy the PC version as the G25 isn't compatible with the 360  however if it feels better with a gamepad then I'll go with the 360 version. :)

The game offers Force Feedback for all wheels, and its more sim-like with a wheel, but then I controller is just as easy to drive with, I guess its more driver preference. I do have trouble with controlling the car with all Aids off etc with the controller though to be fair :)

I've been playing shift for a while and enjoying it :)

Had no trouble on my pc + G25. It all just worked fine, had no crashes or fps trouble.

There is a patch that adds mouse support, although I find it quicker and easy enough to use the keyboard most of the time.

Found a forum post that said that setting "Oversteer" to high in the Tuning section actually fixs the oversteer problem..LOL

Gonna try that later, err tomorrow :D
