WRC 2010 - New Rally Sim Coming 2010
Here's hoping they can create a game that has physics that will compare to Richard Burns Rally. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses....

Could be promising, Black Bean have made previous sim(ish) games like Superbike 09, Evolution GT and the Superstars V8 Racing game

A bit about this game in this clip (starts at around 23 minutes in). I'm glad to hear it supports all wheels etc but am still to be convinced that it will be anything decent. Some parts sound good but seeing the car bounce of fences like they seem to in parts of the clip doesn't look promising. Still looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

It's looking pretty nice now that they have started to update the graphics. Some of the screenies look pretty cool and the physics sound promising now as well!!

Moving to the PC with G27, ah this is more like it, working properly and it instantly feels fantastic, the traction effortlessly conveyed, still a bumpy run the wheel makes for an exceptionally physical experience. Progressive acceleration worked well while more aggressive use of the power makes for a far greater level of risk. As ever rally is always balancing on that knife edge and WRC is no exception, I'm looking to find more speed, cut a corner, use the positive camber, making the best of it. Alas again I push too hard, clipping a barrier (which is damaged in the incident) and damaging my car, this having a profound effect on the handling and effectively ruining my stage time. But it's great to feel a game that's so intuitive at this stage, every mistake is my fault, visually matching the effects of gradients exactly.

DiRT 3 has been announced as well with a short trailer, but it looks like more of the same tbh.

Yea I see that, from what I've read though they have taken a different approach to Dirt 3, so fingers crossed there will be more rally and less off road racing.Bull wrote:DiRT 3 has been announced as well with a short trailer, but it looks like more of the same tbh.
To my knowledge they haven't been released yet.Aaron wrote:Does anyone know the recommended specs for this game? I couldnt find them.

Downloaded the demo for the PC but it crashes when I go to race Looks like I'll be downloading the PS3 version of the demo when it's released.

Re: WRC 2010 - New Rally Sim Coming 2010
Downloaded the demo for this on the PS3 a couple of days ago and hooked up the G25 and spent some time on it over the last couple of days.
So what's it like?
Well the graphics don't compare to something like Dirt 2 but they also aren't completely terrible either, they just look a little dated IMO. I've been running the game in full 1080p HD and they certainly aren't incredible. There is a slight blurring effect going on when driving sort of like Dirt has, it looks alright but I get the feeling it's there to cover up some of the bad trackside visuals.
The physics aren't too bad when set to professional mode. They aren't as sim like as Richard Burns Rally but they aren't as arcade like as Dirt 2 either, they are sort of a cross between the two. You can adjust the following settings before racing to get the car to act more how you like however I'm useless at that sort of thing so won't comment on how much of a difference they make... Brake balance, Downforce, Gears, Car Height, Suspension, Traction balance, Front differential & Rear differential.
Overall I enjoy the way the car's handle and they way they react when coming into contact with track side objects. The incar view is pretty good and I love the way the windscreen cracks etc when you hit something hard enough or roll over. But I'm not sure I would go out and purchase this game, I'll probably hire it out from a local video store first before forking out the cash, just to see what the full version is like. If you're after a hard core rally sim then I'm not sure this will fit the bill, however if you're open to something a little more arcadey with decent tracks and licenced cars etc then this might be on the to get list.
Check out the demo and see what you think.

A couple of the guys at SCu have been playing it, and in a nutshell they said don't bother.
Its graphics are dated and the physics are like the old PS2 games.

The graphics are definitely dated but the physics are a lot better then anything we've had for a while like Dirt 2 etc. I'm now looking forward to Dirt 3 though as it sounds like they might be going back to their roots and making an actual rally game... hopefully.Bull wrote:A couple of the guys at SCu have been playing it, and in a nutshell they said don't bother.

But in all honesty, GT5 is coming out soon and that will no doubt be a winner even though the rally tracks aren't proper rally tracks although there is a SIMPLE track creator included so who knows what people will come up with.

I wish people would stop reminding me that GT5 is coming out and remembering how poor I am and need to save up for a PS3! haha.
To be fair, the physics on the old PS2 WRC games are better then DiRT2, so their summary is accurate

Colin Mcrae (spell) raly for ps1. The single best rally game I've played (maybe with exception to RBR2010). For it's time it was awesome

WRC is sh*t. Played the demo on PS3 and couldn't even complete one race, that is how sh*t it is. The only thing that kept me playing was that my G27 RPM LEDs worked with the game
