8800GTX [i]**must read**
If you didn't already know everyone including reviewers have had to sign a NDA(non disclosure agreement) before having access to the new Nvidia 8800 GTS & GTX cards. By the look of it someone has leaked already. The offical relase is on the 8th November. I can't garantee this information is accurate, but it appears to be straight up.
These are the first cards to support DX10

Videocards and even sound cards use to be much longer than that. You will find the majority of Cases will accommodate one, only issues is hoping motherboard components don't get in the way, oh, and PSU usage.Tom wrote:They are bloody huge too, they won't fit in about 90% of cases. Think I'll wait for the next series, my 7800GT will last a while yet.
The first release of a new series is generally not that great either, looking at the 5000 series for example.

"Finally, the pair of speed characteristics: memory ensures the brandwidth og 86 Gbit/s, videochip fills rate equal to 38.4 with billion pixel per second."
Is that it
Someone used google translater for that shiz I think.

I had previous heard around 250W per card... which leads me to believe that is an average TOTAL system requirement, although that sounds far to low. I would want a 600-700W psu personally if running a high powered core2, plenty of ram and harddrives etc (who knows, maybe even more!)Noon416 wrote:Power requirements:

8800 GTX - 30 amperes 450 W
8800 GTS - 26 amperes 400 W
I seriously hope that's inaccurate...

Here's a good review, don't know how they got past the NDA.

ok here's the latest. If you didn't already know the 8800 GTX cards had an incorrect resistor put in them and all 8800GTX's have been recalled to be fixed. This was not a problem at the respective card company's but in the production of the base cards from Nvidia. Three of the main suppliers have released statements about this problem and all assure us that they will be ready at release.
http://www.hardocp.com/news.html?news=M ... V3cywsLDE=
Ok so Matt at VR Concepts contacts me today and says that there are some 8800GTX's in stock in Auckland and Jetboy has contacted the supplier to query the problem with the cards. They reassured him that the cards are fine and that they got to the problem in time.
hmmmm.
Problem was found what 5 days ago? and now the ones in Auckland are fine..............I really doubt that is possible. Anyway Jethoe will probably buy one immediately and we will all find out soon enough.
Good Luck Fella.

Has anyone actually stopped to ask how much these things are going to be in NZ pesos?
Looking at PriceSpy which I wouldn't call all that representative this early, the GTS is over a grand and the GTX is $1300+.
Frankly given the list prices in the US (wasn't the GTX going to sell for $650US excluding taxes?) I'd say these prices are low and are likely to climb once the retailers actually have stock.
Me I'm gonna wait for round two of DX10 cards.

Just to make sure the lines dont get crossed...have been keeping a close eye on the various hardware forums around the world and the resistor problem seems to have been a certain batch of cards rather than the entire run (have not spoken to any suppliers as yet..have other contacts playing that game)Mattly wrote:Jetboy has contacted the supplier to query the problem with the cards. They are in NZ as several people allready have them and are gaming away with their jaws on the floor....apparantly they rock, kick the nuts out of any game on full detail
If your a member of http://www.overclockers.com.au have a look on the forum there and a guys actually posting in game screenies with FPS and details of what hes running it at rather than "OMG I GT L33T 3DMARK"
Planning to get one in the next few weeks once I figure out what manufacturer offers the best combo/warranty deal

reviews up and down like yo-yo's at the moment....lol
Price comparisions always come up, GTX $1300 ish, GTS around $1k, XTX $750, 7900GTX around $800
What I've been seeing so far is people are prepared to pay the premium to run their games at high res with everything cranked and still have smooth frames....if you can afford a GTX then generally your running at least 1600x1200 (or widescreen equivilent)
Looking foward to the first review that tests these against a Dell 30" screen and starts running games at 2500x1600, though people are allready running into the CPU limitations...start cranking up the CPU and the FPS follows suit it appears
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=79774 Sli and new 680i motherboard (appears to be at the G80 Launch lan in the US)
snagged some pics of a test spotted in my roamings

HardOCP tested it with FSX:

Noise wise they say at the end of the article that because of its large centrifugal fan you can't hear it even under full load.

Good work on the link Skanks. I wish the reviewers would use a typical system rather than bleeding edge all the time. FSX seems to need two 8800GTX's if you want max graphics, but it will still shine regardless. The big question is how the cards will perform with DX10. Supposedly it's a more efficent way of programming graphics, so it should improve performance in FSX, but will it?

I don't think it's the graphics card holding it back, you notice they can easily stick on 16xAA/16xAF. I think it's more the CPU can't handle that many objects and due to FSX not supporting multiple cores theres nothing you can do about it unless they patch it to do so (If they supported multiple cores, quad core would be very tempting). Also by using a cutting edge cpu they try and remove CPU limitation as much as possible.

So now I wait. (and pray the card i get isn't faulty).
Hey and a big thanks to Mat @ VR Concepts for his diligent hunting for the best deal for me. I look forward to flying FSX when this baby arrives. I better quit my job and go on the dole!

No, No.. its a good thing that some pleb (no offence Mattly ) is spending their hard earned pingers on bleeding edge hardware, that way we'll know to avoid it when it turns to shite.. Of cousre it may not, but I expect we'll see similar things like we did with the first gen DX9 cards.
However for a DX9 system, the 8800 series looks pretty good

I expect your probably right Riven, I know im paying a premium with such a new product and it will be cheaper in probably a month, but I just......can't..........help........myself.
Pros: I get to tell everyone how big my e-penis is.
Cons: If the products faulty you guys are going to laugh and laugh and laugh........sigh.
Stay tuned.
