Yes and apparently GTX cards are turning out a massive 10fps...Noon416 wrote:There's some really good DX10 shots for "Call of Juarez" over at GameGuru Mania, including some great DX9/DX10 comparisons. DX10 makes a massive difference

Spoogetastic? I was just looking at the pics at the bottom of page 2 and there's hardly any difference to my eye.
I ran the demo through last night on my 8800GTS and wasn't all that blown away to be honest. Maybe I was expecting more... or maybe I just wasn't looking close enough.
Smooth shadows and better particle effects? The major difference at any rate between the two versions was the ability to use the high-quality shadows in DX10 that really made the game look better on that platform. Rounding the edges off and smoothening out areas of shade really has a massive effect on the game when it's otherwise bright white. Unfortunately, the high quality shadows of the DX10 version also caused a massive performance hit, which conveniently brings us to...

That's the point, Bazzil. They could code it and make it better. But from the article, the guys go from the DX9 to the DX10 demo and they're all like "It's spooge-tastic!!11!1!!one!", but it looks exactly the same.
Might as well claim that DX9 is as good as DX10 and not code for DX10.
If there was a massive or even a noticeable difference, that would be cool but hyping it up when there isn't one only makes you look like an idiot.

Here's a fairly critical review...

So much of what we see in the release of this demo is purely hype on NVIDIA’s part in an effort to bolster support and sales of its G80-class GPUs. While there’s nothing wrong with that (we love Capitalism), we felt we needed to show these screenshots to present things in a more proper light without the marketing spin.
Clearly, DirectX 10 has quite a ways to go before it impresses us – even if you can appreciate the added differences the DX10 version brings in the form of motion blur, a bit more detail etc, you do have to ask “Is the performance penalty worth it”? Is a feature really a feature if it drags down the game performance like this? I suppose that’ll be up to each of you to decide but for right now we’re holding out until a better example comes along of what DX10 is supposedly all about.
We appreciate the efforts by NVIDIA and Microsoft to get DX10 content rolling, however, Lost Planet seems a bit half-baked and hopefully the full game will yield much higher performance.
