rFactor 2 - beta RELEASED!!

Post by Jetboy » Fri Dec 23, 2011 5:44 pm

Now that we're getting into the beta thought we'd switch over to a new thread from the screenshot's and preview thread that's been going on since March 09 here and get more into first impressions etc

Beta release on its way, torrent links (officially released this way from ISI) can be found here Essentially it gives you an install with a few cars to try out and when the betas released they'll release the exe that you can use to actually launch the program (downloaded here and its around 2.5Gb worth)

It's a bit useless without the exe. They are trying to do a PR stunt because they failed to live up to their promise of rfactor2 this year. I predict over a month before the exe is available.

Negative Much, you already know u on Santa's Naughty List?

No worries, even if its a month, we have Historics v1.9 to relish in the meantime, an obvious candidate for the first KSR league of 2012 :laola:

It wont be a month... They were still saying before the end of the year a week ago, and I'd be surprised if they don't meet that.

They aren't doing anything until after the Christams holidays...to be fair on the staff.
There is also talk of a time limited demo coming out as well.
I can waith until after Christmas to be honest, rFactor 1 still has a lot of life left in it...

Considering all the issues in the past with games being released and servers going down etc as they try to keep up with the in-rush of people downloading all at once, think this is actually forward thinking by ISI, use torrents and the community to spread the love and after all its a beta...which means its free...so fairly hard to complain about that...though people will
Looking forward to having a go on it and seeing how the community moves forward with this version as rFactor got an amazing mileage out of the $80 or so that I paid for it back in the day

Not so.. To get the exe file, you have to pre purchase. But we are all going to buy it anyway :)

More info on the beta release:
Is a multiplayer server going up Riven?

The Open Beta release of rFactor 2 is quickly closing in and to shorten the remaining waiting time, ISI has released some new details on what’s included in the beta.

While the beta comes with limited content, there’s no shortage of features as ISI’s Scott Juliano has confirmed the following features to be available in the beta:

*Single Player
*Multi Player
*Developer mode
*Development Tools
*What Documentation we have for those tools to date (in the WIP state)
*Rain
*Wet/Dry track transition
*Dynamic track elements (Groove/Marbles)
*New Tire Model
*New physics
*New Collision
*HDR (with other Post FX to come)

Access to beta updates and new/updated content as they become available
Some of the features are not fully complete, hence the beta status. ISI expects the beta phase to last around six months, that’s why beta users will be receiving an additional six months of online account service to make sure they don’t use up their 12 months before regular customers come in.

Interestingly, ISI is willing to offer a refund to beta users who are unhappy with what they’re receiving, lowering the risk for sim racers interested in giving the beta a shot.

In terms of the all-important “when?” question, ISI has once again stated that all depends on the successful testing of the release candidate. According to Scott Juliano, “early January” would be a realistic time frame so sim racers should stop holding their breath waiting for the beta to become available within the hour – It’s still a few days away...

I wore a glove on my right hand for the TC65 league. I was getting a blister from working the wheel so hard with one hand (go ahead Bull....setting myself up here). The little Bambina had a narrow power band so my left hand was on the shifter pretty much all the time, leaving my right hand to maintain all the sideways antics.

OK...frustrated now. I have installed it following their recommended installation guide and clicking the rfactor2.exe won't bring up the launcher. I have run as administrator, looked at the compatibility etc and nothing...

UPDATE: Their commerce servers are overloaded. It seems clicking on the shortcut starts the launcher once it has contacted the server...

This is fun...but will have a steep learning curve to go fast!
The only negative thing is that the front tyres look flat and that the HDR ticked makes the track go white! (Turn it off and it's fine).
I have most settings on high but haven't tried online yet...

That's not a good omen Rifty.. I thought you would have minimum system requirements or better.

I ran through the minimum system requirements when they released that info recently.. and my system except for graphics card and RAM (more then min requirement) just meets that requirement... E5200 Core2Duo (2.4ghz).. what is your's then? I'm hoping I don't have to upgrade right now :look:
Dementia... isn't a Hollywood fantasy movie starring Mickey Mouse, apparently.
