RFactor 2 NZD $32.95

Post by kerryland » Sun Oct 18, 2015 6:52 am

I just noticed that my spam folder contained a 40% off offer for rFactor 2 :

NZD $32.99 (1 year online subscription)
NZD $59.99 (lifetime online subscription)

Offer code is 40OCT15

Also 10% off multiplayer renewals promo code "10RENEW".

https://commerce.rfactor.net/purchase/select

Both Promo Codes will expire 23:59 EDT on 10/18/2015. (ie: 5pm Monday)

Does anybody locally actually play this?

If you lot eventually upgrade to something other than rFactor 1, I might join in for a race again one day..

I'm all setup on Rf2 and assetto corsa, just waiting for the powers that be to decide to run something new.

I guess I'll pick up RF2 now then, just in case. I have to say I really enjoy the feel of AC.

There is a demo for rF2 if you want to try it first. I'm a bit on the fence, I'm not particularly interested in offline racing, but I don't have anywhere online to race it. I also dislike the two-tier pricing model, they're changing for online access but they don't host any servers...

Found it. Had a bit of a play and not particularly impressed. Think I'll skip it until it becomes compelling.

All of the new breed have something wrong, especially when it comes to online racing and server hosting.

RF1 may be old, but its still the best overall sim for online leagues.

I think thats the thing as well. rF1 is still rock solid. It really only lacks graphically on the latest releases, the rest of it is as equal or better. Im still yet to come across another sim that has the same 'feel' to it as what rF1 does.

I've heard great things about GameStockCar, which is essentially an "rF 1.5". They have access to the full source code of rF1 now, so have been adding a ton of features to it, plus it's got the whole stability of rF behind it.

That said, AC is constantly updating all it's network aspects, and IMO feels great to drive as well. I hope in a few months it'll be in a ready state, AFAIK there are still a few netcode collision problems.

And like Kerry, I found the rF2 demo to be underwhelming, I think the track used probably didn't help, doesn't really suit the demo cars so much.

Game Stockcar, like a few other games out there (Stockcar Extreme, ARCA, Sim Race Way) as mentioned, are all just rF based with enhancements. The Full retail version of rF2 now is a lot better then the demo, but it really needs a full commitment from the community to get the most from it. Not going to be able to accurately compare without a full field online on both.

Funny. Practically everything feels better than rf1 to me. I have a Thrustmaster T300 and have spent *days* trying to get it to feel good with RealFeel and/or Leo's FFB.

Eventually I settled on Leo's FFB, and although I'm sure if I spent even more days perhaps I could make it feel better it doesn't seem like it's worth the effort when AC, RE3, PCars, iRacing, F1 2015 and Dirt Rally (eventually) work just fine out of the box.

I've tried the 1hr demo of GSCE a couple of times and never managed to get the wheel to work properly at all.

Maybe I should get a G25/G27 :-(

I personally can't stand Realfeel or Leo's FFB - I find the factory FFB shipped with the game the most accurate _b

I think rF1 doesn't feel as good to you because the wheel you're using is better, so all those newer sims can utilize it more, whereas us with G25/G27s have a somewhat limited capacity anyway, so all the sims "saturate" the potential of it anyway. Man, I worded that awfully...

Anyway, take a look at these:

G27 FFB Response

T500 FFB Response

You see that the Thrustmaster has way better linearity (particularly at the low force zones), and a smaller deadzone as well. I should probably have a bit more of a play with the rF2 demo, because I think I was finding the FFB crap because I hadn't set up the minimum torque setting. Whereas in AC for instance, I agree with you that the FFB feels better than rF, and in that one I did set-up my minimum torque.

Yeah, rF1 offline isn't great, but when played online it becomes something awesome. It's a bit of a shame that the demo for rF2 doesn't have online capability (if they had a one track only available online, that could work) to experience the full potential. Because paying 100NZD before being able to try it online is a big investment.

The discount code still seems to be working, so you could find out for NZD 32.99, incl a year's worth of online :-)

...so I tried to buy it. Failed with NZ Credit Card due to an "unsupported currency" error, so I had to use my PayPal account.

Who knows. It might come in handy one day.
