Re: The new stockcar 147a
A quick update to say stockcar 147a now has a heart beat!
Got it started tonight thanks to Dad and my mate Garrett.
Still needs to have the timing adjusted and steering bled up, and other fine tuning but it was a great feeling to hear it run!
Will have pics and a video in the near future.

Re: The new stockcar 147a
For a straight 6 Falcon the maximum advance is 36degree's at 3000RPM. That's with full mechanical and vacuum advance.wanttobe wrote:Shot clive I think i had mine Timing Advanced 26/28 degrees if thats any help Clive

On the subject of the dizzy, should I get it locked or connect the vacuum line, or just leave it disconnected?Harding Jr wrote:For a straight 6 Falcon the maximum advance is 36degree's at 3000RPM. Re: The new stockcar 147a
If you disconnect it you will need to set your timing at 24 or 36 or whatever you have your full advance set at.

Re: The new stockcar 147a
On our car we have the vacuum on all the time. But we still use the mechanical advance. Depending on the cam (in general lumper = less manifold pressure) the vacuum does bugger all as there isn't much pressure.Clive wrote:On the subject of the dizzy, should I get it locked or connect the vacuum line, or just leave it disconnected?Harding Jr wrote:For a straight 6 Falcon the maximum advance is 36degree's at 3000RPM. I'm sure you could give that question to Carlos in person and he will be able to give you a more in depth answer. Although he may have a different bearing on what to do.
One important thing about speedway and racecars there is never no correct or wrong way to do something, there are just different ways.

Re: The new stockcar 147a
Thanks mate.
Old dumbass here only marked TDC on the crank pulley so need to take it off and mark up to 35 degrees or so
Since running the car noticed some pin holes in the water inlet so getting that sorted.
Also need a carb kit as it is leaking after shut down (fuel bowl gasket is dead).
Clutch needs attention as at present the slave is trying to spit out the piston.
Brakes need attention as when running the car has no pedal feel whatsoever. May end up ditching the booster set up in favor of a big master cylinder.
Ah the joys of it.
Got a fuel pump shield made up last night though, will fit that tonight.

Re: The new stockcar 147a
Sorry been a bit slack with updates of late!
Since my last update:
-Water leak fixed in water inlet
-Carb rebuilt
-Seat padded and currently away getting covered (Thanks to John at Fine Fit Upholstery)
-New belts purchased (RJS with sternum clip)
-Power steering bled up
-Crank pulley marked for timing
-Body prepped and primed
-Roof plate cut off and rollcage prepped
-New rod made for clutch slave which solved that issue
Had to cut off the roof plate as going from a racetech to the steel surgeon seat I only had 230mm from the centre of my helmet to the front bar on the roof plate Have now extended the bar 100mm further forward and getting the plate after work today.
To do:
-Paint body
-Signwrite body
-Fix brake issue
-reinstall seat once padded
-reinstall and adjust belts
-Make and mount wing
-pad various interior parts of car
-tune engine
And other little bits and bobs that escape me for now..

Re: The new stockcar 147a
Two steps forward, one step back..
Took 6 attempts but got the clutch pedal sorted, it was sitting too close and my legs were up around my chin
Anywho, to do list now consists of:
Make / mount wing
make / mount mirrors
make gearbox cover
paint body
signwriting
make and mount bump stops for diff so it doesnt over-extend and lose the driveshaft
Put padding around interior of car.
time engine correctly
Thats about it, not too far away now!

Re: The new stockcar 147a
Dave Shaw (Petrolfumes) has kindly offered to do an online 'unveiling' of the car once complete, so I may take him up on the offer before it gets wrecked
Thanks for the interest and advice from everyone, it has helped alot of the last 12 months or so

Re: The new stockcar 147a
Signwriting has begun!
Should be done by the end of this week, wing is made but unsure if I like it (looks too short to me).
After that just fiddly little things left to do and its ready to (hopefully not) roll!
Let me know what you think of the numbers, this font was chosen to match the barbed wire going around the car as pinstriping.
