Re: Help on Sub box
Shane,
Making a sub box that sounds average is really easy. Just make a box that fits the speaker, insulate it thoroughly with whatever is handy (BATS, carpet, etc), cut a hole for the driver and mount it, then cut a port for it.
But as I said, it will only sound average (which is still good enough for most people).
Once it's installed, play with the crossover frequency on the head-unit until it sounds as good as possible. Some headunits don't have a crossover, in which case just take a line-out from the head-deck into your amp and apply the low-pass filter on the amp. Some amps will have an adjustment for the low-pass filter so play with that until it sounds good.
If the headunit has a sub-out AND control over the cross-over point you shouldn't need the low-pass filter on the amp.
To make a very good box is a LOT more complicated.
It involves finding the resonant frequency of the box and driver WHILE installed in its final location, then adjusting the size and depth of the port to dampen that frequency.
Check out this site. He seems to know his stuff.
Good luck

The size of the inside of the box has to be Execked or it could ether sound like carp or Fark the sub
