Hey Nutter bro, Google search for the d3dx9_dll file and download it and then paste it into your Colin McCrae Dirt folder bro.

That should work mate, I've done it before for rFactor when I had the same file missing. :)

I installed the game recently and have had no problems at all. Do you have the latest Directx installed?

When you installed the game from the DVD did you use Setup.Now.exe or Setup.exe? You should have used Setup.Now.exe so if you didn't then I suggest you uninstall the game and try and reinstall it using that. :)

Ok from what I understand this is something to do with some optional components not been installed by the standard installation of Directx. To fix this problem you will need to install the Directx found on the games disc.

When you inserted the game into the drive did it automatically start up with the installation or did you need to go and search through the disc to find the setup file and run that?

During installation you may have been asked whether or not you wanted to install Directx. If you weren't asked then I suggest you open the DVD in My Computer and look for the Directx directory and inside that should be a setup program you can use to install the version on the disc and that should install the files that you are missing.

Clear as mud? :D

Try this...

Under Windows XP, ensure that the Cryptographic Services are enabled and running:

Right-click on My Computer
Click on Manage
Expand Services and Applications
Click on Services
Right-click on Cryptographic Services
Click on Properties
Set the Startup type to Automatic
OK and close your way back out.
This service is required for the validation to work.

Set the Cryptographic Services to Automatic, and then try to install the program again. To set the Cryptographic Services to Automatic, follow these steps:

Start the Administrative Tools utility in Control Panel.
Double-click Services.
Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties.
Click Automatic for Startup type, and then click Start.

Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Pentium 4 @ 3 GHz or Athlon 64 3000+
Memory: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 12.5 GB Free
Video Memory: GeForce 6800/Radeon X1300 or better with Shader 3.0 Support
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9.0c
Keyboard & Mouse
DVD Rom Drive
The above would suggest to me that a computer running windows 2000 won't be able to play this game...
