Adding extra buttons..Id like some help!

Post by Rocketship » Wed Jan 27, 2010 4:59 pm

Hi guys,

I have two steering wheels, one doesnt work properly and the other does. Im wanting to take the buttons out of the wheel that doesnt work and add them to the wheel that does work :) Is this possible?

Thanks

I could be wrong, but I think the short answer is no.
Anything is technically possible, but the real question is "Is it possible with the skills, material, and time that you have available".
To bring things more into the realm of possibility, you could gut all the electronics from the garbage wheel, and use them to drive the extra buttons you're adding into your best wheel.
This would mean that you'd need two USB slots free for it to work though, and it'd be a messy bodge-job method....but at least it'd be possible without redesigning the electronics (and presumably the drivers) from scratch.

Ahhh, well replacing broken buttons is a different matter. That should be relatively easy :)

yeah i thought it would be :larf: does it just mean taking out the wires and buttongs and puting the new buttons in with new wires? just connect them up to where ever the old wires went?

Another option is getting a joypad or controller and doing a similar thing to Inspector. From memory he cut off the handles and attached it to his wheel to give him extra buttons

Leave the old wiring in place...just replace the buttons.

Sidewinder's suggestion is also very easy....but like my original suggestion, it would use two USB ports.
