Another computer kaput.
Well lastnight just before racing..I loaded up rfactor....And when in the menu and in race the game locked up with the screen going messed up. Squares all through it etc..And it will stay like that for a minute or 2 then the screen will turn off and say "No signal"
Now the computer all loads up etc but with the screen being a little messed up. And i can sometimes get to opening up a web page but then it locks up and the screen turns off.
Any suggestions would help alot...Sounds like a graphics card problem??
Thanks.

If your motherboard has onboard graphics you could try taking out (or disabling in bios) the graphics card and seeing if you can get on to do the normal stuff, internet etc without any problems. If so then it's certain that your graphics card is the problem. Over wise it may be a separate problem(s).

You don't need to disable your other card, you just plug your monitor into the other plug. Then just get windows update or whatever to install/update the drivers for it.

Hey Naki,
Before ditching that card, try the following steps....
1. Remove the video card from your computer.
2. Clean the pcie slot (the one you took the card out of) with compressed air (you can buy a tin of CRC Air Brush from any electrical or electronics supplier; Rexel, Coreys, Dick Smiths, Jaycar, etc; for about $5)
3. Clean the card itself with compressed air.
4. Replace the card and try booting into "safe mode".
Assuming everything's now working at this point, continue with the next steps.
5. Uninstall the video drivers.
6. Reboot into "safe mode with networking"
7. Download and install new drivers from the GPU manufacturer's site (NOT the card manufacturer - ie. If it's a Gigabyte Nvidia card, download the drivers from nvidia.com, not gigabyte.com.)
8. Reboot into "normal boot" and test it.
If it still doesn't work, see if you can acquire/borrow someone's video card so you can test with a different card.
It's not necessarily a video card problem. It could also be a faulty northbridge (the chip that controls the pcie bus).
Although the video card itself is the most likely culprit, it'd suck if you spent the $$ on a new card only to find that it still doesn't work.
