Re: First rF2 league
If we actually run a league it might get a few people purchasing or re-downloading it.

+1. Unless it has VR support I've just no interest. Could you do something with Assetto Corsa instead?Bold wrote:VR or bust for me now sorry

Re: First rF2 league
Unless it works from the server/league perspective its pointless.
None of the newer sims are very great from the admin perspective.
rf2 is the least troublesome however.
Catering for the minority also isnt useful (VR)

Re: First rF2 league
Assetto has a big flaw with high downforce models among other bugs/flaws
iRacing doesnt work here
Dirt Rally isnt a circuit racing game

Re: First rF2 league
I racing is too Exlucive and takes to much practice time and thats coming from an Iracers
Dirt Doesnt work for this league as its rally or Rallycross (but could be keen for a side league as I play it all the time and I can set it up)
That leaves Rfactor 2 and Assetto, Nether I have played but can't judge. The Admin side I'm sure there can be work arounds found but who knows.
I do feel a change would be good if it will boost numbers.

I really feel rF1 has been used, and its a bit like flogging a dead horse atm.
Both rF2 and Assetto are good bases to move forward with. rF2 is certainly more familiar from a driver, admin and mod creating/modifying standpoint than Assetto, but everything can be learned.

There is already a well established Assetto Corsa community in NZ.

Re: First rF2 league
Absolutely. There do seem to be people running leagues in AC, including these guys in NZ.Riven wrote:Unless it works from the server/league perspective its pointless.
I wonder what it is they are missing out on by using AC rather than RF2?
And that's certainly an extremely important aspect. I understand there is a lot of effort involved in getting servers configured and running, so admin's opinions should definitely rate higher than plebs like me who are just voicing opinions!None of the newer sims are very great from the admin perspective.
rf2 is the least troublesome however.
KSR need to decide what's important. Here are some I can think of:
* The best physics model?
* The best admin tools?
* The widest possible audience? (steam charts has 30 day average for rf2 at 152.5. ac is 1113.8, although this is likely misleading because rf2 hasn't been on steam for as long as ac)
* The cheapest possible game? (steam has rf2 for $42 +$16 pa for online, ac is $36. ac has more paid for expansions)
* The most number of tracks/cars? (fwiw, racedepartment.com list 88/65 for rf2. 247/93 for ac)
* Lowest spec hardware requirements?
* others?
If all other things are equal-enough, I don't see what harm it does. Support for VR does not exclude non-VR racers, all you are doing by choosing a platform that supports VR is increasing the number of likely participants, which is one of the major goals, right?Catering for the minority also isnt useful (VR)
Whatever you choose, I think not-rFactor1 will attract more racers. Sadly, it seems like iRacing has its hooks into me pretty deeply; it might be tough to break free!
Good luck

Re: First rF2 league
In the same Kerry, Iracing is still my SIM, I just found it refreshing having a 2nd league of less serious races and on another SIM, I actually found its helped my iracing driving.
I think if the most important thing is grid numbers then AC is the best choice but for admin it's rfactor 2. I can't comment on physics as I haven't played ether. I think for car and track numbers then AC has the advantage.

Re: First rF2 league
I've put my support towards AC a few times, it usually gets rebutted with AC has net coding issues.
If these have been ironed out I think it's definitely an option. There is already a strong modding community behind it

Re: First rF2 league
One very important factor to keep in consideration is Inspire's generosity, and Rivens help with managing the servers for us. Without both, KSR would not be here.
We are very lucky to have the support, and what we run has to fit in with both Riven, and Inspire.
I don't know what is the best way to go from here, all I know is I've found rF2 to be the better sim to race.
I'd prefer better physics, than some flash looking grass, so rF2 is what I'd run.

It's more than just VR though, they're upgrading the graphics engine to DX11 as well. They're also partnering up with a firm called Luminis who helped work on Automobilista and they're planning on bringing much more regular updates.
Very interesting news. rF2's graphics are the only thing holding it back compared with the other sims, with DX11 they could improve them significantly.

Re: First rF2 league
Reading this interview it seems like ISI had basically given up on rf2 and have been working on 'not rf3' instead.
What they have done now is given the development rights to a new company, "Studio 397", who are a subsidiary of their new partner, "Luminis". I hope Studio 397 have the skills and support required to give rf2 the love it needs.
