Longford 350 - January 22nd

Welcome to the Longford 350, January 22nd starting @ 8:00pm

Longford is a temporary street circuit in Tasmania that was used between 1953 and 1968 and hosted a number of event during that time, including the Australian Grand Prix.

It is quite similar to old Spa, its long, it's fast, and it can kill you dead.

We'll be going slightly newer school with the cars being the group C mod that was released over the holiday break. These cars are all pretty even, and a blast to drive. Fast, but not overly difficult.

Choose between 3 mighty vehicles from 1991

Mazda 787b

Porsche 962C

Sauber C11 (Mercedes)

I would like to differ with respect to "not overly difficult to drive" - is it just me or is the cornering in some of these Group C cars a bit iffy at times? I find myself going sideways around Mid-Ohio quite a lot! (While obviously fun, I doubt this is the most effective means of getting around).

Also, did they forget to mount brakes on these cars? The Mazda is still okay-ish, but I can't get the Sauber or the Porsche to actually stop at all? I find the Mazda the easiest to drive, though with 717 HP it has the least power of all - but at least the car actually brakes.. well sort of. The Porsche sounds awesome and it's a hoot when those turbos kick in but it sure is a handful. The Sauber... I can't really put my finger on it but I just don't enjoy driving the C11, compared to the relatively ease of use of the Mazda and the raw experience of the Porsche.

The Merc is probably the quickest car around the track, it's just controlling it over a long period of time might be an issue.

In terms of ease to drive, I still don't think they're that bad, you just need to be mindful when the boost comes on (especially when the wick is turned up).

The low damage will help, you can bash these pretty hard without too much consequence which should help the finishing numbers.

Is the race going to be on the server 203-114-130-10.colo.sta.inspire.net.nz (203.114.130.10) ?

I'm getting a ping of 200ms to it even though I get 40-60 to strayan servers and my connection seems fine otherwise :-/

In Christchurch on VDSL2. Tracert looks like this:

is it something going on in akl-ix.nz maybe?

I'll do my best to make it but as my family is coming back from overseas after 4 weeks away, I may have other duties tomorrow evening.

Just a little info on the pit stops to help everyone out. I take 120 secnds to put a full tank in, The yres also take another 20. Tyres and fuel are done separately.

Thanks for the awesome race guys, it sure was an event!

My first ever pole, followed by a few offs ala Growler in the Viaduct before managing to make my car a permanent feature of the track! Derp. O_o :D

Image

(Coming over the bridge, I clipped the fence on the right which catapulted the car over the track and ended up exactly in between these fences from which there was no escape. )

Anyways, it was a real hoot and these Group C cars are a blast! Thanks for putting up the race and showing up, it was a good one! And thanks to Obscene for putting this together, I think we should be doing more with these Group C cars!

That's a real shame Erik, you were very quick!

I really enjoyed last night - crashing ~5 times didn't help my chances though.

The cars are fantastic, and I'm sure we can incorporate them again at some point this year.

Once again, Congrats to Riven for winning and also for putting up the server for us to enjoy.

Yeah man that was super unlucky after actually looking at how it unfolded.

These cars were an absolute blast, can't wait to run them again.
