Hi All,

Joined up here after watching Murphy's Law set up vidoes on YouTube then stalked him here!

The set up videos did nothing for me, his driving style is different to my own, but gave me starting points.

I mainly drive PC2, but in the past played GTR2 and various non-sim driving games NFS etc. but these get boring quickly.

I only get a couple of hours 2-3 time a week to race, and to be honest I am usually about 10-20 seconds off the WR pace in PC2, but always improving.

I run an old gaming PC/HTPC with GTX980Ti, AMD something or other processor and 8GB ram and about 20 TB storage. G27 with a hucky home made stand, played on my second hand 60" TV through my second hand 6.2 channel home theatre.

I have ordered a spring set for the brake pedal on the G27 to get a better feel, as I have to control the brake pedal with pressure rather than feel.

Currently I am playing the formula Renault 3.5 career on PC2 and really enjoying that car, in between times I race anything on Bathurst (except the Falcon)

I look forward to picking your brains when I get stuck with set up, bugs etc. eventually I will purchase Assetto Corsa

+1 for AC

I made the switch to AC but enjoy rf2 still. rF2 is great, but AC has more mods and a bigger community.

~1900 servers vs. ~450
~9500 mods vs. ~700

The AC physics are just as good IMHO. They both have track rubberisation, non-linear grip coefficients, Pacejka cruves (RIP Hans Pacejka), chassis flex, etc. Main difference is rf2 uses an in-house physics engine where-as AC leans on ODE for collision and rigid, articulated body simulation. I actually find rf2 to be too clean and clinical, while AC has this rough and real feeling. And it's $20 :-)

I picked up the Ultimate edition of AC for $30, I had a bit of a play with it, but something just doesn't feel right with it on the G27, maybe because I have spent so much time on PC2 recently, also I just couldn't get the buttons to map as I wanted. I will have to have another look when I have some time to get into it.

These are the biggest things which affect steering feel for me (aside from tyre selection and pressure):
  • Logitech profiler settings
  • Track temperature
  • Session grip settings (default setting is 100% grip)
  • Track surface configuration (surfaces.ini - mostly a problem with mods)
  • Car's tyre model version (10 is latest, mostly a problem with old mods)

I think AC uses the same profiler settings as rF2:

I have AC with a bunch of DLC but I'm so used to racing with rF2, I just can't get into it. Since we only race rF2 for the KSR League, I just stick to rF2 as Tuesday night (KSR race night) is where simracing fun is to be had for me.

So +1 for rF2 for being able the join the KSR leagues :D

Profiler is more or less a waste of time - both Assetto and rFactor 2 overwrite the profiler settings with their own in game settings (unless you untick the "Allow Game to Adjust settings" box).

Still haven't played AC in anger yet, I am enjoying the career mode on PC2, but that will wear thin in a couple of months too.

I am still generally about 10-20 seconds a lap slower that the world record times on the faster cars, so I am not sure I am going to be any good at online racing. I find I brake too late and end up tangled in other cars, which is frowned upon, also when damage is on it makes for a very short race!

For the moment I'll keep plugging away at PC2

You will learn 10x as much in an online race night with us than you will ever learn playing single player. Everyone starts somewhere, and we are more than accommodating for all skill levels - join us for a race night sometime, you will get hooked!
