Kiwi Sim Racing 1991 F1 Championship

With the release of version 2.0 of the absolutely fantastic ASR 91’ F1 cars (seriously this is probably the best mod I’ve ever used on rFactor) then it would be a great time to run a short Grand Prix style series.

The mod is broken up into 7 different cars, you will need to subscribe to all of them via the steam store to be able to join the server.

The cars are equal in actual performance, however all the engines have a distinct sound (The 2 Honda cars sounds different to the 2 Ferrari cars) and each has their own cockpit models and designs.

So everyone is aware, F1 did not have refueling between 1983 and 1994 so these vehicles do not have the option to add fuel, but they do have different compounds of tyres and a variable boost setting.

Mod: ASR F1 1991

Jordan
Ferarri
McClaren
Williams
Benetton
Tyrrell
Minardi

We’ll be utilizing tracks from the 91 season, and I’ve tried to go for some tracks that we haven’t use at KSR before.

Tracks
Interlagos - May 21st
Imola - May 28th
Magny Cours - June 4th
Adelaide - June 11th

Races Settings
Half length of the real life version from the 1991 seasons (I will put up the specific number of laps with each race thread)
1 x Fuel (as above - there is no refuelling)
3 x Tyres
2 x Road Progression
CPS's - You must run both versions of the race tyre (Soft & Hard) and cannot change tyres on the last lap of the race. (this does not mean that a single stop strategy will be fastest)
The Qualifying tyre is banned for the race, but available for use during qualifying.
Auto Clutch and Auto Blip only -- these do have a starter motor - its just slow
Black flags only
40% damage
Mech Failures - Normal
Type of start - Standing

Race Night Format
We can start a little later, as we have a single race of approx 45 - 50 minutes
8:00pm - Official Practice
9:00pm - Qualifying
9:15pm - Warmup & driver briefing
9:20pm - Race Start

Qualifying
Qualifying will be a 15 minute open session to complete as many laps as you wanted. Please keep Discord chat to a minimum during this time. Also please strictly adhere to blue flags during this session.

Additional Weight
There will be no additional weight system for this series.

Sign Ups
Again we’ll be using the RF2 Analyser tool that we’ve used in the previous couple of series - this means no manual sign ups and you’ll be assigned your race result based on name. This means you cannot change your RF2 driver name between races…..Ritchie cough

Password: wahwahwah

Car Selection
I will put up a car selection thread up shortly - first come first served. If we get more than 14 people interested then we'll double up cars (Car selection is not mandatory for participation)

Points
Image

Additional Points
Fastest Lap in the race - 5 points
Pole = 5 points
Have also added a constructors points championship as well.

General Notes
These cars are hard to drive, there no setup or tip that gets around that. Run some laps and get used to them before even worrying about the setup too much. The adjustment you can make to make them easier to drive immediately is to drop the boost setting.

We'll run an official practice on Tuesday the 14th so we can give advice as needed.

Spain is 10 hours behind - so 9pm NZT = 11am Spanish time

Car selection thread at some point today in most likelihood.

I'll see how the series progresses in terms of popularity and turnout, but if we have a strong field who want to run some extra events then I see no issue with that.

We ran spa in the Group C recently - how about Suzuka and Estoril, which are both historically accurate as being part of the 1991 season?

Anyone else having trouble joining server?

I get an error message about a package not available.
I think I have everything - all cars and tracks.

Also, that's not how you spell Ferrari :-)

Link fixed for Williams

Couple of posts online indicate you may have issues if you've had previous versions of the mod installed.

So remove\unsubscribe to the old versions, then re-subscribe to the 2.0 version.

I've been enjoying a few practice laps around Interlagos, starting to slowly get the hang of these beasts. This is going to be one EPIC series and I hope attendance will suffice in convincing Obsc3ne to extend the series beyond the originally planned races.

I think these ASR 1991 cars should be counting as one of the best mods for rF2? The level of detail is incredible and they sound fantastic!

We can start a little later, as we have a single race of approx 45 - 50 minutes
I know I'm a broken record on this subject, and I recognise that nobody has ever responded so I'm probably the only one with this opinion, but is there any appetite for starting earlier? Or, at least, just starting this series at the normal time rather than later?

Not really.

Easier to run later and let people get home from work (and the people stay up a little later. whilst also allowing Australian participation), rather than earlier and exclude people who aren't home yet.

It was discussed recently amongst admin group, the decision was to keep the same start time.

Fair enough. I guess I was spoiled because I decided years ago to finish early to avoid hell traffic, and have a decent length of time at home in the evening.

Gotta get that work/life balance right!

So racing in this series is at 9pm, or 9:20pm? (just for the sake of clarity; I'm not really as hung up on this as I might sound, I just like a good night's sleep :-)

9:20pm in this league. (9:00pm qualifying)

But the amount of actual racing will be less than we're used to. I can't imagine anything going past 10:10pm, usually we're looking at an end time of 10:30pm or so.
