New Member - Hello

Post by FiggyNZ » Tue May 12, 2020 10:27 am

Hello all,

New to this site, but have been a long time fan of racing games....Looking to get more into it now, dusted off an old wheel over the past few weeks and have the itch. Will be starting out relatively small due to time and money - Some of the rigs I have seen look amazing.

I am pretty handy with wood, etc. Am I better of to build the rig myself and use the $$ for a better wheel, etc?

Could be on the lookout for some pre-loved kit too.

Keen to hear some thoughts.

I know plenty of people who have built there own rigs, and there's plenty of plans and such available on Google!

Only thing with Wood is later on in life if you decide to splash out on a DD wheel, wood probably wouldn't be strong enough.

But it's more than enough for entry-mid range gear!

Suppose the strength would be in the design and the type of wood used.

Money is always an issue with high end gear, but as Bull said there's plenty of designs around if you're looking for some inspiration for a DIY project.

Oh you can make a rig out of wood that's strong enough for a good DD ... but hiring the forklift to move it gets expensive. :D

TBH will probably be going down the route of a G29/G920 for now. Waiting for this COVID19 thing to settle down though, the prices are nuts right now.

Have looked at building an 4080 rig - But the price to build one, seems high even compared to buying something ready made.
The Next Level Racing gear looks good, the WAF (wife acceptance factor) of the F-GT Lite looks good to....Anyone tried one out?

It's my current rig.

It's not too bad, the fitment of holes wasn't great, but a bit of muscle and a drill helped.

Whilst the hybrid position is appealing, in reality it doesn't make a different. Figure out which position you prefer and get a rig based upon that.

Also take into consideration how you're mounting a monitor. As the Next-Level monitor stand sits on the same rails as the wheel stand it limits the adjustability of the wheel, so my wheel is slightly closer than I would like, but don't have enough adjustment now that the monitor stand is attached.

If I had my time again I would have probably spent the extra money and gone to a higher price point, but at the time the WAF was also something I had to consider at the time.
