NZrFL 59: KSR Grand Prix Championship.

Post by Obsc3ne » Wed Sep 02, 2020 7:21 pm

We've been teasing this one for a while, but Welcome to the KSR Grand Prix Championship for 2020 using the 1991 F1 Mod from ASR.

With additional teams being added recently along with continual updates by the ASR group, we thought it was time to revisit one of the best non-pay mods available on the rFactor2 platform,

The 10 variations of cars are equal in actual performance, however all the engines have a distinct sound (The Honda powered cars sound different to the Ferrari powered cars) and each has their own cockpit models and designs.

So everyone is aware, Formula 1 did not have refuelling between 1983 and 1994 so these vehicles do not have the option to add fuel, but they do have different compounds of tyres and a variable boost setting.

10 F1 Teams are now available (there was 7 last time we ran these), and you will need subscribe to all 10.

Schedule
Tuesday 22nd September - Official practice night
Tuesday 29th September - Round 1 - Istanbul
Tuesday 6th October - Round 2 - NOLA Motorsports Park - Course B
Tuesday 13th October - Round 3 - Zandvoort - 2020 layout
Tuesday 20th October - Round 4 - Watkins Glen - Nascar Layout (Bus Stop - No Boot)
Tuesday 27th October - Round 5 - Pukekohe

Race Settings
 • 1 x Fuel (as above - there is no refuelling)
 • 1 x Tyres
 • 2 x Road Progression
 • CPS's - You must run both versions of the race tyre (Soft & Hard) and cannot change tyres on the last lap of the race. (this does not mean that a single stop strategy will be fastest)
 • The Qualifying tyre is banned for the race, but available for use during qualifying.
 • Auto Clutch & Auto Blip - I highly recommend turning auto clutch on due to the possibility of stalling.
 • Traction Control Allowed - Due to the difficulty to drive I'm allowing traction control
 • Black flags off
 • 75% damage
 • Mechanical Failures - Normal
 • Type of start - Standing
Race Night Format
We can start a little later, as we have a single race of 50 minutes each week
8:00pm - Official Practice
9:00pm - Qualifying (fully open session, everyone on track at once and unlimited laps)
9:15pm - Warmup & driver briefing
9:20pm - Race Start (50 minute timed race)

Additional Weight
There will be no additional weight system for this series.

Sign Ups\Points
Points Site
This means no manual sign ups and you’ll be assigned your race result based on name. This means you cannot change your RF2 driver name between races.

Car Selection
I will put up a car selection thread up shortly - first come first served. If we get more than 20 people interested then we'll double up cars (Car selection is not mandatory for participation)

Teams
Teams are back! Simply make sure you and your team mate register for the team you wish to represent in the skin selection thread and battle for manufacturer glory along with personal achievements.

General Notes
These cars are harder to drive than some of the touring cars we've run recently in the Tuesday night league, but they're not impossible. My general advice is to get used to running the cars first before worrying too much about the setup.

This league is slightly different to the Tuesday night racing we've been doing recently and is erring more on the simulation based championship scenario (with higher damage and mechanical failures etc.).

The damage is high, however the pit crew will pretty much repair anything, the below will all be repaired in a pit stop, the only thing that actually appears to cause a retirement is if you pop the engine
 • Suspension Damage (both light and severe)
 • Loss of wings (both front and rear)
 • Loss of wheels

Just a note from my experience during the previous series with these awesome cars, you *will* pop the engine if you run on high boost for a prolonged period of time during the race.

They're not as bad as they were, but yes if you abuse the engines they will go bang.

I'll consider the mechanical failures aspect of the series.

Turns out they are actually NA :D I can't recall what we used to fiddle with in the previous F1 series - it may have been the top RPM, but I do recall popping the engine at Imola for pushing the engine too hard for too long during the race.

Yeah, no forced induction except the sealed airbox.

There have been a number of updates (and new cars) since we last ran them, some settings may no longer be available.

They certainly seem to behave differently from when we last ran them. Even with quite a bit of rear wing, the car just launches itself in the air going flat out through turn 11 in Turkey. I'd expect that it would have enough down force to keep it on the track, these cars didn't seem that 'floaty' on Imola and Brazil last time?

Would anyone have any recommendations/tips for the gear ratios? Even with Riven's tweaked setup, I seem to be 11 km/hr slower on the straight.

Problem fixed I think by starting with a new setup from default again. Now I'm getting the Ferrari up to 330 km/hr instead of 312 km/hr and it actually 'sticks' to the corners. Still need to work on my lap times but at least its drive able now :D

Thanks for the people that showed up last night.

There appears to be an issue with the McLarens which causes a bunch of issues for everyone on the server at the time if someone uses it.

No-one has chosen it in the car selection thread yet, so if possible I think we'll leave it alone for simplicity.

Are we still going to race the non-chicane version of Lime Rock? (which is still part of the map rotation on the server at the moment) or are we switching to the layout that cuts-out the big bump?

I was doing laps on the non-chicane version over the weekend and it seems to be almost random if the car will do a back flip or not. :larf: Even when lifting or down shifting, I've had the Ferrari airborne a fair few times. Could make racing very interesting though! A bit of a Webber-like experience

No, I'll be swapping the tracks this week.

While it's hilarious in practice when you flip over, not so ideal in the race.

Thanks everyone, was super good fun and great to see double digits participation in all the races.

Congrats to Chomp for taking out the overall title.

Yes, was good fun. Sometimes it takes a little bit of luck to avoid some carnage but it helps the results :)
