NZiRL 2: Global MX5 Cup

That's right - we're heading back to iRacing! We take on one of the most prolific, challenging, door banging, lane changing, wreck inducing, popular road racing vehicles known on the platform - the MX5 Cup!

Jokes aside, the MX5 is a proven wee sports car more than capable of throwing plenty of thrills and spills. Drivers will need to finesse all the finer details to ensure they maximise every tenth out of this vehicle - and then they have to negotiate overtaking!

This again will be a - free content only - series, meaning all you need to participate is an active iRacing subscription! This is a great series to give the sim a go if you are yet to have a spin.

Car: Mazda MX5 Global Cup

Schedule:
[29/10] - Open Session Fun Night (no server password)
[05/11] - Round 1 - Lime Rock Park - Grand Prix Layout
[12/11] - Round 2 - Oulton Park - Island Layout
[19/11] - Round 3 - Summit Point Raceway - Summit Point Raceway Layout
[26/11] - Round 4 - Oran Park - Grand Prix Layout

Format:
- 10 Minute Open Qualifying Session
- 2x 10 minute heats (first heat based off qualifying, second heat based off race 1 result)
- 1x 5 minute warmup
- 1x 30 minute feature race - inverted grid from race 2 - double points from heats - passing points allocated

Points
Heats:
75
74
73
72
71
70
... so on

Feature:
150
148

... so on

Passing Points:

- Local Yellow Flags
- 25x Penalty, 35x DQ
- 1x Fast Repair
- Fixed Setup

- Voice Comm's - Discord is heavily encouraged for all communications during the night - Kiwi Sim Racing Discord Invite Link

Race Night Schedule:
[19:45] - Session Goes Live
[20:15] - Drivers Briefing
[20:20] - Qualifying
[20:30] - Racing Commences

Haven't got iRacing??

As most know, iRacing is a subscription based racing sim that has a heap of pay to use content. The fortunate thing, is there is also a heap of FREE content available to race with, just from the base subscription. You will not need to purchase any additional content to take part in this series!

How to join? The good news is, iRacing is currently doing 50% off on all new memberships!

Skins:
iRacing has its own in-built livery creator for each car where you can choose from a range of decals and styles, colour combinations, rim colours and number styles, all for free.

Haha $5, then you are in and you see that there are 50 people in a session with that new whatever it might be car on that track you dont have.

Ten minutes later you own them both and downloaded the content... then you realise how easy it is to spend the $$ with iracing :)

It's a great service. I have been there since the first year so it's easy now as I own all the road content. Somehow I have been there 12 years and have not got my A license or in fact run that many official races because there are a lot of options how you want to have fun.

Iracing is what I turn to 99% of the time as even a practice session is no stress fun with other people about that you can learn off and get in to little bite size battles.

I'm under no illusion that iRacing is cheap! :larf:

My primary interest in iRacing is racing with KSR folks so if that's where we're going, then that's where I'm going. And if I need to purchase a bit of additional content for our leagues then I'm not immediately against that as long we keep costs for everyone in mind.

(It took a long time before we ran a league on paid rF2 content, though having said that the GT3s were of exceptional quality).

So the way I look at it, I got iRacing for KSR league racing and maybe look to do a bit more, especially for practice sessions etc.

Yep, using free content on KSR is dirt cheap, just get that $5/3 month thing and you have all you need.

Once you are on have a look and get in some practise sessions with other people. I't all good fun and more value to be had without needing to spend anymore $$

It really is the best service if A) you prefer to be on servers with real people and B) your time is all over the place, you might have a spare hour here or there but find it hard to do organised things often.

Dumb question perhaps but how do you actually find the KSR League on iRacing? It's not showing up for me?

We don't actually have one at present - iRacing charges us to set up a league page and a 'league event'

We (Seca) hosts the private sessions and I organise all the points side of stuff locally to save us paying that money.

Feel free to add us as a friend on there, people like Seca, Obsc3ne, Aaron and myself are on quite frequently and is always great to jump in and do some races with others.

As for race night, the KSR Session will go live around 7:45. You can then find it in the 'hosted sessions' section. As long as you register before qualifying, you will be good to go!

We will of course be on Discord on the night to help anyone through the process :)

Tomorrow being a practise night would be ideal chance to see how it all works.

There isn't a registration page as such - just register to the session when it goes live at 745pm - 815pm and you'll be set to go!

We will have a password on the sessions during the series, the password will be included in each weeks info post. Tonight's practise session has no password ☺️

I assume we will be using Discord instead of the in-game voice chat?

And could anyone share a reasonable setup for the MX5? I completely have to get used to the iRacing garage screens, it really feels like starting all the way from scratch again (as I've only really been using rFactor 2).

We are using fixed setups.

Yes discord is preferred. Ingame chat can be used and racecontrol/admin may use it during the race

Are we running the baseline setup or another fixed setup? If not baseline then could someone share the fixed setup please? I missed the practice night.

cheers

If I'm searching for tracks (for AI Racing), I can't seem to find Oulton Park or Oran Park? I can find Summit Point though. Are they going by different names or am I doing something wrong here?

EDIT: Ah found it. I can use it for a Test Drive but neither Oulton Park nor Oran Park appear to be supported for AI racing sessions

Round 4 Results and overall standings are both updated in the first post.

And thats a wrap!

I want to thank everyone who took part in the series, the MX5's proved to be a heap of fun and provided some enjoyable moments and plenty of close racing encounters

Congratulations to the top 3, and everyone who managed a personal best or achievement during the season.
